ENGLISH MAHOGANY, SATINWOOD AND EBONY CARLTON DESK, mid – late 1800’s. The rectilinear front with a “U” form back. The desk top with a tooled leather inset writing surface of like conformation surmounted by multiple compartments consisting of a central locking cabinet door flanked by a bank of three small drawers flanked by concave locking doors, continuing to sloping hinged convex sides which open to reveal a letter and ink and writing implement holder. The apron front with three drawers, the back with cross-banded panels, raised on tapered square columns adorned with stringing and ending in brass casters. The whole with highly figured wood of contrasting colors with rich patina.
