19th Century Anglo-Indian Teak and Iron Trunk
Dimensions: 22″H x 30 1/4″W x 21 3/4″D
An excellent solid-teak 19th century Anglo-Indian iron strapped trunk from the 1820s. The antique chest was constructed using teak with iron banding wrapping the entire piece. Teak is resilient in hot and humid climates, and was the preferred wood used when making furniture for English colonial south Asia. The iron banding provides added structure and also combats warping. The chest has a styled iron latch that can be secured with a lock. The front of the chest has been decorated with beautifully hammered and pierced iron. The interior is spacious, with a small compartment inside. Today, this antique trunk would make a wonderful blanket or toy chest or an eclectic coffee or side table.
