French 19th Century Mahogany Butler’s Secretary
Dimensions: 78 1/4″H x 36 1/4″W x 31 1/2″D (opened)
A debonair mahogany butler’s secretary from 19th century France. The desk is meant to be stood at, not seated. The work surface folds forward to reveal a marble lined interior that includes four drawers, finished in beautiful rosewood. Above the central workspace is a cabinet with lockable glass-front doors. The cabinet’s doors retain their original panes of rolled glass, which have arched tops, and close before a cavity equipped with an adjustable shelf. Immediately below the workspace are two long document drawers, each with two turned wood knobs. Beneath these drawers is another storage cavity that is hidden behind two lockable doors, styled with tasteful, moulded trim. The secretary rests on a plinth base. Closed, the entire piece measures: 78 1/4″H x 36 1/4″D x 20 3/8″D.
