    A handsome and classically designed French Directoire “D” roll top desk. The desk is topped with a polished piece of St. Anne gris marble. Directly beneath the marble are three drawers with beautiful bookmatched burl mahogany drawer fronts and brass escutcheon plates with an impressive steel key and locking system. The D shaped roll top is quite impressive with its burl bookmatched design and brass handles. The top opens to a fitted interior including three open cavities, three drawers and two spring loaded hidden compartments. The leather top writing surface extends forward making the total depth of the desk 37 ¼”D. The main writing surface is 29 ½”H x 48 ¾”W x 20”D.     A wonderful mid-19th century French Louis XVI style mahogany desk hand-crafted in France circa 1850. A beautiful, smooth top of flame mahogany is surrounded by a three quarter decorative brass gallery following down to two open center storage spaces and four roomy drawers in a removable riser. This top piece easily lifts off the base for transport and is affixed with circular, recessed brass escutcheon plates surrounded by Louis XVI style brass bellflower pulls. A second three quarter brass gallery surrounds the writing surface which measures 30” H and is adorned with new black leather with gold gilt tooling. Two sliders on each side of the writing surface are covered with the original leather and extend the desk out 17 ¾” on either side. The apron showcases the handsome veneer and gorgeous colors of the wood and contains four drawers of the same design that open easily. The right side has a singular large drawer that opens to contain a notched wooden privacy slide and a four compartment pull out wooden tray for excellent organization. The whole is raised on regal turned, tapering fluted legs with brass capitals and capped feet.     A fascinating late 19th century stone garden statue of what is possibly a maenad holding and wearing grapes and a ram’s skin. The maenad, or bacchants of ancient Greco-Roman mythology were the attendants, servants and priestesses of the god of wine, Bacchus. This stone column which dates to circa 1890 features a female figure emerging from a static square based column. She has flowing hair encircled by garlands of grapes, an exposed breast, and is draped in the folds of a ram’s skin. Her eyes are pierced where once may have been inlay. This superb and rare vestment cabinet made of solid oak is composed of 10 three foot drawers. These large drawers were used to store vestments from the priests. Each long drawer across the front has two pulls each and all drawers slide easily. The smaller faced drawers are the same depth as the longer ones. Beautifully figured with trim around the drawers and side panels that showcases the high quality craftsmanship of this historic church piece. Shield brass escutcheon plates adorn the keyholes, no keys included. Heavy, solid and sturdy with a beautiful rich oak patina this piece is raised on block feet to stand at counter height. All of the lower doors unlock to reveal a removable, finished shelf.     This stunning armoire de mariage was crafted in France during the 1800s from richly toned solid oak. The ornately carved motifs represent the wishes of wealth and prosperity for the new couple. The cornice has an impressively carved woven basket overflowing with flowers and pomegranates that serves as the nest for a pair of doves meant to represent the new couple. Swirling acanthus leaves with flowers flank the basket beautifully and are meant to represent fertility. The top of the wonderfully paneled doors display well carved grapes on the vine to represent abundance. Each of the doors center is carved with gardening motifs meant to represent wealth: the left showcases a lush basket of fruit, flowers, and wheat while the right has a watering can, ladder, sickle, and shovel. This piece is a fantastic example of the traditional gift from the bride’s parents. Large steel barrel hinges support the hefty doors. They are hung on large steel barrel hinges with a Greek Key styled escutcheon plate and close before a massive storage space with two adjustable shelves that measure 21-¾” deep. The sinuous lines of the scalloped apron continue to the antique’s carved escargot feet in classic Louis XV-style. A single key works the lock on the door and acts as the pull. The upholstered, striped fabric is fixed to a removable cushion that remains moderately comfortable. The apron is shaped according to the seat cushion and has a scalloped edge.     This newly composed pair of consoles were recently crafted from 19th Century iron panels from Europe and topped with a fabulous piece of charcoal stone with white veining. The iron was painted a vibrant green once and has gained a perfect patina. Their unique design and hooked tops indicated they were likely once part of a larger fence or gate. Centered between the hook forms is the unmistakable gorgon head depicting Medusa. We recommend placing this console inside or undercover. Sold as a pair only.
