It is painted to match the frame and accented with subtle painted details done in a cross-hatched design. The frame is painted a light cream color, which has been distressed, giving it a wonderfully, aged look. Floral and foliate carvings are accented in the same blue/green paint used to accent the cane backing. The back is shaped, and has a beautiful cartouche carved into its top rail. The shaped skirt complements the chair’s cabriole legs which terminate in escargot feet. It is upholstered in a beige fabric, which is trimmed with double welt cording.

A remarkable Victorian-era English terracotta chimney pot. This antique architectural element serves as both decorative and functional additions to traditional chimney flues. During the 1800s, coal was used more and more to heat homes, however the smoke that it produced was thick and toxic. Heightening one’s chimney increases its draw, removing this unwanted pollutant from interiors more quickly. Multiple indoor fireplaces was a luxury afforded to those with means, and these toppers would often be indicative of an estate’s socioeconomic status. The more intricately designed pots were more expensive and therefore prized by those that wished to project their wealth by ornamenting their homes with beautiful embellishments to their fireplace smokestacks. The worn black and white paint adds so much character to the design. Most were not painted, making this one particularly stylish. One of the crown’s tines have been lost, adding to its antique charm. Today, they can still function as intended, however their excellent patination and form make for exceptional garden ornaments and/or decorative objects.

Hand-crafted circa 1810 this attractive chair has a hooped back with a wonderful, pierced wheelback over a well figured seat and elegant turned legs united by a crinoline stretcher. This chair retains a beautiful color and patina and has clearly been much loved through the years. In superb condition this chair is comfortable with a seat height of 17 ¼”. This is an English 19th century terracotta rhubarb forcer for the garden. A rhubarb forcer is a bell-shaped pot with a lidded opening at the top, used to cover rhubarb to limit photosynthesis. They encourage the plant to grow early in the season and also produce blanched stems. The pots are placed over two- to three-year-old rhubarb crowns during winter or very early spring. Once shoots appear the lid is taken off, causing them to grow towards the light. This one no longer has a cover. It would be great in a garden to protect other plants or as a conversation piece.

Built in France during the 19th Century this Louis XVI style gueridon features a thick inset gorgeous marble top with lovely patterns throughout resting atop the trimmed and molded mahogany table edge above a dark trimmed and paneled apron. The apron is adorned with hand-carved rectangles at the corners that frame rosette motifs and separate the table apron into four segments. The whole rests on four carved column capitals above elongated, fluted and tapering legs. The wood has a marvelous patina and gleams under a recent polish with French paste wax.
