Antique Garden Furniture From Fireside Antiques

A good set of antique garden furniture isn’t just a fabulous way to add class to your garden or patio; a set of antique furniture that’s already lasted hundreds of years will hold up for decades more with proper care. Not only that, but you’ll have both a family heirloom and a conversation piece to talk about for generations to come.

Much of our antique patio furniture comes from England, where we find it during our buying trips through the countryside. However, we also commonly source cast iron garden furniture from French gardens and cafes.

While you might not initially consider vintage garden furniture while browsing for antiques, the beauty and sturdiness of wrought iron garden furniture are hard to deny. If you’d like to take a closer look at any of the antique garden tables and sets we offer, please click on them individually to learn more.

Caring for Antique Patio Furniture

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “They just don’t make things like they used to,” applied to things like cars, homes, and furnishings before. However, the same phrase lends itself well to metal garden furniture, too. Antique cast iron patio sets were built to last, from the quality of the materials used to the casting process that shaped the iron itself.

Depending on the materials used in your antique furniture items, you may need to care for them in different ways. It’s true that stone, concrete, and even iron tend to weather the elements beautifully over time, but if you want to preserve a flawless finish, you should clean and treat them at least once per year.

Wood and wicker furniture, for example, while popular and lightweight, tend to dry and crack with prolonged exposure to the elements. To keep weave, wicker, and wood looking their best, clean them regularly and apply wax or oil as needed.

Of course, metal furniture tends to stand against the elements much better, but some types—especially painted metal—can fade easily in the sun. However, you can cover painted metal furniture with automotive wax designed to protect from UV rays.

Types of Antique Garden Furniture

A set of chairs and a garden table need not be where you stop with your antique patio furniture. At Fireside Antiques, we’re in the business of rehabilitating and selling antiques, so we’ve seen more types of antique garden furniture than you could imagine come through our doors!

Consider garden benches, for example. Some patio sets and suites come with benches instead of chairs. The addition of a matching bench can be a great way to liven up the look of your garden without having to branch out too much from your original aesthetic.
