This beautiful French 19th century Empire commode is made of burl walnut veneer. The top is Saint-Anne marble and sits over a wide drawer hidden in the apron of the piece. There are three more drawers below with ornate pulls and escutcheons. A pair of columns sit on either side of the drawers. All sit on a thick plinth base with wide, raised feet. There is one key that works in the three locks. The patina of the wood is truly beautiful, be sure to scroll the detailed images.

This wonderful petite bench was made in the Louis XVI style and has a sinuously shaped top with a cane seat that is in excellent antique condition. The shaped apron is adorned with carved floral splay details and affixed to the legs with peg and hole joinery. The six legs are turned, tapered and fluted. A wonderful walnut secretary desk. The desk can be separated into two bodies: the lower writing surface, and the upper glass-front cabinet. The writing surface is covered in beautiful black, tooled leather and can be pulled out for additional work space. The writing surface has a height of 29-½”H and the knee clearance is 26-⅝”H. The base also contains two drawers with working locks and a single key. Above the writing surface is a little cubby with a whimsical scalloped frame flanked by two drawers on each side. The drawers all have a round brass knob. The top has two glass-front bookcase doors with original glass and working lock and latch. The cabinet has two adjustable shelves. The secretary is lifted by four brilliantly turned legs.

An absolutely stunning hand-carved, hand-pegged walnut armoire. A large Louis Philippe-style crown cornice sits just above a carved Directoire-style frieze. Two large, Louis XV-style shaped doors equipped with a working lock and latch are hung on barrel hinges. They are decorated with fabulously carved, shaped panels with a central fluted pilaster between. The interior is outfitted with four fixed shelves and measures 20-¼”D. The apron features a modest central circular cartouche with a floral center and a shaped edge with lines that continue onto the impressive escargot feet.

This 19th century, Anglo-Indian solid teak trunk with original iron bindings has aged beautifully. It has a striking patina with fantastic texture and grain. The hinged top has two forged iron hasps that would have been pinned close with an iron or steel pin. When open, a single chain holds the lid, preventing it from falling back. There is a single forged handle on either side of the box. This iron-bound box originates in the Northern Indian state Rajasthan.

A spectacular Belgium limestone topped, mahogany console from 19th century France. Just beneath the top is a hidden compartment accessed only when the stone top is removed. The top is supported by traditional Empire-style column legs with ormolu capitals and bases. A shaped stretcher base supports the columns and rests on casters. This 18th Century, mixed wood French armoire is absolutely stunning. It is Gothic-style and features two tall, paneled doors on barrel hinges. One key operates the locking right door and acts as a pull. The left door latches from the inside to keep it in place when closed. This piece tells a story from inside the left door, as it has years of faded markings from growing children, some with dates and names. Just behind the doors are four fixed shelves. The crown and base of this armoire are oak while the body is fruitwood. The detail continues with three paneled sides, soft curved corners and two large bun feet on the front. Throughout its long life, the wood finish has acquired a patina that is simply amazing and has an undeniable antique quality. Impeccable craftsmanship and detail show with hand pegged joinery.

This lovely, mahogany gueridon is from France and features a Breche d’Alep marble top with brass gallery, over an apron outfitted with two locking drawers operated by a single key. Four, round tapering and fluted legs have brass ormolu ornamentation inset into the flutes along with brass bands around the top and bottom of each leg. Each leg is connected by a stretcher connecting at the center with a final. The whole sits on turned feet with brass casters.

This specialized oak desk was made in France. Used by jewelers, the desk’s lifted surface brings the table towards the artist, minimizing reach, and saving their aching backs. The work surface has a three quarter wood gallery and raised surface across the front. This raised edge keeps jewels and gems from rolling off the surface, when being worked. The desk is equipped with two drawers. The top drawer has a small brass knob and a single compartment. The lower drawer sits just below and has multiple compartments for keeping tools and precious stones. It is somewhat disguised without a pull and moves with the top drawer when it is open and closed. The desk is constructed with mortise and tenon joints, and wood pegs. Sometimes a simple design, well executed, is perfection.

A fantastic Provincial buffet – made of quarter sawn oak – from 1780s France. This beautiful solid oak case antique features exceptional decorative carvings, all done by hand, that are found on antiques dating to the countryside in this time period. Influenced by Louis XV, the design utilizes the sinuous lines found in that style, but lacks the asymmetry and grandiosity associated with LXV antiques. This tall buffet has three drawers that are set over two locking doors. The doors are hung on brass barrel hinges and have shaped brass escutcheons. The interior has a single fixed shelf. The rounded corners are bedecked with hand-carved details, along with the shapley skirt. The sinuous lines found along the skirt continue onto the short cabriole feet that lift the tall case antique.

A delightfully congenial set of French 19th century painted nesting tables. The set consists of three delicate tables that are graduated in size. They neatly stack or “nest” inside one another, enabling them to be kept out of sight when not being used. The polychrome tables each have exceptional hand-painted details that ornament them and provide a gentle sweetness that only a bouquet of freshly-cut flowers can. Painted green, the tops were trimmed in gold gilt, which can still be seen in many places. The shapely form of the scalloped apron is also integrated into the slender cabriole legs that bend gently at the knee and taper slightly to a pad foot. The three tables individually measure:

The table features a gorgeous breccia marble top, inset with canted corners that match the base, and smattered with splashes of amethyst and gold. The heavily stylized base is ornamented with detailed motifs including egg and dart, lamb’s tongue, running coin and beaded pearl. It has been painted a warm, buttery cream color and has taken a lovely antique patina. The cabriole legs extend from the canted corners, with foliate embellishments on their knees, and having scrolled feet. c.1890.

A whimsical set of upholstered French reproduction dining chairs, produced there in the 20th Century. The set contains four side chairs and two armchairs. They have painted frames that are made to appear antique. Their overall style is in accordance with Louis XVI, and features fanciful backrests formed like early hot air balloons. The chairs are comfortable and have been recently upholstered in a wonderful blue/green fabric that is both resilient and on-trend. It is trimmed with double welt cording. The legs are turned with fluted carvings.

A lovely painted side chair, made towards the beginning of the 20th century, in France. The cane back is intact and in wonderful vintage condition. It is painted to match the frame and accented with subtle painted details done in a cross-hatched design. The frame is painted a light cream color, which has been distressed, giving it a wonderfully, aged look. Floral and foliate carvings are accented in the same blue/green paint used to accent the cane backing. The back is shaped, and has a beautiful cartouche carved into its top rail. The shaped skirt complements the chair’s cabriole legs which terminate in escargot feet. It is upholstered in a beige fabric, which is trimmed with double welt cording.

Italian 18th Century Parcel-Gilt and Painted Canapé

Masterfull artistic talent was employed to create this stunning Italian canape. The sofa’s back could be mistaken for a canvas, given the finely detailed artwork that graces its surface. A central cartouche encircles a sweet bouquet of potted flowers, with tassels and filigree subjects visible. The back has gilt finials that flank its central painted crest rail. Gold gilt accents can also be found atop the armrests and ornamental joinery dies. The settee is currently outfitted with an upholstered cushion that is covered in a golden champagne-colored silk fabric with a cross-hatched laurel embroidery pattern. The green painted frame is wonderfully patinated, with delicate garlands painted atop in a darker shade of blue/green and other golden embellishments. Six tapered legs lift the canape and also bear the beautifully painted detailing.

Two incredible French cast iron planters that have been painted, circa 1920. The rectilinear planters are perched atop decorative scrolled feet, done with great influence from Louis XV. Front and center lie cartouches that encircle clusters of grapes. Cross hatchings embellish the planters, as well as acanthus leaf and floral filigree flair. Both were once painted white, though weather and time have taken most of it away. Both planters have functional drains. A truly stunning pair that will elevate your outdoor (or indoor) style!
Large French 19th Century Painted Shop Counter

A large pine shop counter, sourced from a store in France. The counter dates to 1870 and has had a long and lustrous career and is ready for retirement. The counter has clearly worn a few different coats of paint, with the most recent being a straw-colored yellow. Over time, these finishes have become worn, moreso in high-traffic areas, exposing the natural pine beneath. The countertop has a painted faux-marble top which has some losses. Behind the counter, you’ll find four drawers, the smallest having a working lock. One end of the counter has a hamper-style lid that can be lifted to access additional storage space. Today, the counter would make an exceptional bar for the style-conscious entertainer.

An exceptional Parisian commode, with painted finish, from 18th century, France. This four-drawer antique case piece features a shapely form and an outstandingly well-patinated finish. All drawers are equipped with large, decorative bronze pulls. The three keyholes are surrounded by asymmetrically formed bronze escutcheons. The top has been painted to resemble a darker gray marble and has aged marvelously with the rest of the finish. A shaped skirt completes this sinuously conceived commode. c.1780.

A fabulous Biedermeier style settee from 19th century Bavaria. The settee is made from exceptionally beautiful, solid maple. Some areas have a striped appearance to the grain. This is known as “tigering”. The sofa’s back has a central pointed pediment with smart ebony moulded trim. It is upholstered in a striped and floral silk fabric that was present when the antique was purchased in the Netherlands. The settee’s seat can pull out to reveal a hidden storage area.

This lovely Louis XVI-style grey-painted writing table, dated 1886, is from France and features a spring-loaded writing surface and shaped adjustable support which is signed “Angers/Guimont/Brossard/1886” and monogrammed with a carved and conjoined “CL.” The writing surface, when flat, is inset within the desk’s surface which features lobed corners above an apron outfitted with a single drawer and supported by round fluted and tapering legs on toupee feet.

This handsome 19th century English oak desk chair, c.1860’s, features the original leather upholstery and an incredible rich patina. The padded chair back, with large decorative nail heads (several lacking), has a rear pierced handle and sits upon a pair of chamfered rear side rails. The cushioned seat, with smaller brass nail heads (several lacking), is raised on chamfered legs joined by an H-form stretcher. The whole rests on unique roller-ball casters which, along with the handle, make for ease of movement.

This fine English mahogany tilt-top center table is signed and dated “T.O. Beeman, 1849,” on the underside. The turned base has four reeded and splayed legs ending in stylized brass feet and casters. This table is also excellent for dining as it comfortably seats four people.
