German 19th Century Giltwood Candle Chandelier

German 19th century giltwood chandelier for burning taper candles, untouched by the modern convenience of electricity as a delightfully analog source of light. This elegant design from circa 1820 incorporates First Empire and Neoclassical foliate imagery that gives a vitality to the carvings, flattered by the warm aura of candlelight. Chains descending from the small canopy surround a central column (resembling a fountain) which projects up from the center of the bowl that radiates with acanthus leaves. Four scrolled arms swell with little flowers and seed pods as they rise into the boboches like blooming flowers. Areas of loss to the gilding and patinated oxidation of the metal does not diminish the magnificent quality of the chandelier. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. French 19th century brass candlesticks, Empire in taste, like miniature columns to add instant glamor to a mantel or table. Typical of the French Empire period, inspiration from ancient Egypt and Greco-Roman architecture is evident as the palmette motifs fanning out around the (bulbous) capital, bases and pedestal to fascinate from every angle. Note that the bobeches are removable for cleaning out the wax. This dazzling pair of French girandoles are in wonderful antique condition. While technically they are candelabra for wax taper candles, the abundance of crystals draped and suspended across them gives them more in common with chandeliers! Each fixture is centered on a gilt bronze Louis XVI style columnar base with six sweeping arms and candle cups.
