When the candles burnt to the metal at the top of the candle holder, it was time for the suitor to promptly leave. However, the father could change the height of the candle based on how comfortable he felt about the suitor. Vintage & Antique Candlesticks

Candlesticks, candelabras, and candle holders all serve a specific purpose: to provide a space where a candle can burn without setting your house on fire. You can find vintage candelabras and antique candlesticks made from various materials such as glass, brass, bronze, crystal, wrought iron, metal, and marble, sporting different ways of holding candles and dispersing their wax as it melts.

At Fireside Antiques, many of our candlesticks come from 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century Europe, mainly from England, France, the Netherlands, and Italy. With candelabras and candlesticks of all sizes and styles, it is easy to find one for your table, wall, or even to hang from your ceiling.

Antique Candlestick Features

Many antique candlesticks, candelabras, and candle holders employ different features to keep candles in place and disperse used wax. Some have deep sockets that candles fit into, while others have spikes or rods to hold each candle securely at its base. Wide dishes, or bobèches, often furnish the tops or bottoms of fixtures to capture spent wax, while others use holes and hollow interiors to direct melted wax into a safe receptacle.

Other features found in older-style candlesticks include large rings or handles to make holding a fixture easier when moving around a darkened room.

Accenting a Room with Vintage Candlesticks

Accenting a room with vintage candlesticks can be as simple as placing a set on a table or hanging several pieces on the wall. For those seeking a grander statement, a handling candelabra makes a beautiful dining room chandelier or entryway light, providing the warmth and comfort of a natural flame over harsh electric bulbs.

With so many different designs and finishes, you are sure to find the perfect piece to fit your home, whether you are looking for a small bedroom fixture, dining room table centerpiece, or accenting wall sconces.
