    A large, stunning trumeau dating back to the Louis XV period in France, c. 1760’s. Typical of the period, the trumeau has Rococo style tastefully carved accents which house the double stacked mercury glass mirrors (since glass was unable to be made in large sheets at the time) and a painting featuring a French countryside. The wonderful oil painting shows excellent talent. Most likely this trumeau was a part of a custom wall design or boiserie.

    A large French Louis XVI gold gilt mirror made in 18th Century France. The mirror has a carved plaster crest with a center floral cartouche and laurel leaf branches. The center top of the frame is rounded with square corners and embellished with egg and dart motifs and ribbons. The whole frame has its original gold gilt finish with reddish bole beneath.     This is a massive French 19th Century mirror from the main hall of the Archbishop Palace Rouen, Normandy, France.  This mirror is over 10’ tall and more than 6’ wide.  Both the frame and mirror show aging.  The original mercury mirror plate has oxidized, creating an undeniable detail in this antique mirror.  The lines on this mirror fall where wood support pieces meet on the back of the mirror.  We can assume over a period of time, moist air flowing through the spaces behind the mirror caused the mercury to oxidize and flake off the glass.

    A sublime pair of 19th century mantel mirrors hand-crafted in France featuring gorgeous hand-carved molded and trimmed wood frames with les perles beading around the glass. Finished in cream polished gesso and gilt that has experienced some loss due to time, exposing some of the red bole substratum. Often referred to as “French Red ” this facet of gilt mirrors is sought after. The frames also have portions painted in a lovely creme color. Both the painted and gilt finishes have aged marvelously.     A gorgeous and massive French 19th century carved and painted gilt frame with new mirror plate. This hand-carved frame which once housed a large painting has now been repurposed into a fabulous Neoclassical style gilt mirror. Its beautiful details include wonderfully carved acanthus leaf corners and a deep reeded frame with thick inner trim and molded edges. A smooth space in the bottom center holds a plaque engraved with “JEAN D’ESPOUY” in all caps which signifies that the frame held work by artist Jean d’Espouy (1891-1921), a known French painter and watercolorist who exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais starting in 1910. This lovely and lustrous framed mirror is a great decorative find. Impressive in size and classically styled, this mirror would look amazing in the right location.     This exceptional French 19th century Empire mahogany dressing table is complete with its original mercury glass mirror and charcoal and white marble top. The arched mirror displays some deterioration and is framed in a way that beautifully showcases the wood grain. It is supported by columns that are adorned with the bust and feet of a Greco-Roman style female. The apron houses a single lockable drawer with a decorative urn form escutcheon- one key is included. Within the drawer, 5 pre-sectioned spaces provide wonderful organization. Like the mirror supports, the front legs are embellished with ormolu in the figure of a woman, the quintessence of Empire style. Stylistically, the mirror exhibits the refined designs and themes of the Louis XVI period which preferred Greco-Roman imagery over Rococo forms.     A large dressing armoire produced by Ameublement N.F. “Meubles” in France in the 1950’s /1960’s (label found inside the right door) This sleek mid century modern cabinet would work well in a bedroom or serve as a bar. The exterior of the cabinet is made of maple with a glossy finish. The center doors are lined with their original mirror plates. This case piece is modern and stylish with ample storage space. The interior has three fixed shelves on each side, and the right cabinet is also fitted with drawers. There are two working locks each with their own key.     This Dutch trumeau is a fantastic find! Crafted during the 1790’s, it retains its original mercury mirror plate within a perfectly worn, painted frame. A beautiful depiction of a toga-wearing woman floating among the clouds tops the mirror and is flanked by columns. Two tiny hooks are fixed beside the columns, making it doubly functional in any interior.     A brilliant 19th century gold gilt mantle mirror, made in France circa 1870. The mirror is large and beautiful. The frame is ornamented with bundles of flowers that can be found in its corners and sides. The gilt finish has experienced some loss due to time and hundreds of feather dustings, exposing some of the red bole substratum. Often referred to as “French Red” this facet of gilt mirrors is sought after. The frame is trimmed in a twisted cording motif. The mirror has its original mercury glass, which has some foxing and sparkles galore. The “diamond dust” has become separated from the backing and fallen into the glass. Gravity has situated much of the sparkles along the mirror’s bottom.

A splendid set of Ho ho birds top scrolling acanthus leaves on the crown of an elegant oval frame that terminates in a snake emerging from acanthus supports. The Ho ho bird is derived from the mythical Asian version of the phoenix and appears in 19th century decorative arts as a symbol of good luck and good fortune; specifically longevity, fidelity, and wisdom. The decorative elements on this piece give a little lift to its otherwise understated classic design. The original mercury glass is beveled which accentuates the beauty of its oval shape and is still brilliant with just the slightest bit of foxing.     An exceptional carved and painted trumeau mirror, circa 1800, France. The antique mirror features a large carved and gilt wreath that is situated in the larger shaped panel above the glass. It consists of carved and blossoming roses on one side, with a laurel branch on the other, meeting in the middle at a carved knotted ribbon with tassels. Below this wonderful work of art is the trumeau’s mirror. The mirror is nearly square, measuring 17”H x 18-½”W, and is framed by  carved and gilt trim, worked into twisted ribbon and beaded pearl motifs. The mirror’s mercury glass is original to the antique, and has aged marvelously, with some foxing and sparkles present. A small, carved rectangular panel resides beneath the mirror.

    This exceptional mahogany dressing table is complete with its original mercury glass pivoting mirror and white marble top.  The mirror has foxing and is framed with beautiful mahogany trim with brass ormolu details across the top and bottom.  It is supported by mahogany columns that have brass capitals and bases, capped with spherical finials.  The surface of the table is white marble that is in superb antique condition.  A single lockable drawer is housed in the apron and has a matching ormolu escutcheon plate and is flanked by additional brass ormolu mounts.  The frieze section is raised on columnar front legs with ormolu capitals and bases and  pilaster-like columns at the back, all resting on a concave plinth base.  Table Surface: 29-⅞”H

    A lovely giltwood mirror, made in France circa 1850. This rectilinear antique mirror has a thick frame with a unique design that encircles its entirety. The frame was designed with a corkscrewed motif that sees diagonally oriented ribbings continuing around the mirror’s original mercury glass. The glass is in wonderful antique condition, with some foxing present. The frame  also has portions painted in a lovely creme color. Both the painted and gilt finishes have aged marvelously, with much of the giltwork’s red clay bole having become exposed from decades of cleaning and feather dustings. The antique’s style and scale make it an ideal vanity or dressing mirror, but it is not limited to those applications. It has a universal appeal that ensures its acceptance in any space.

Gracing the bottom is a beautiful brass candlestick holder that adds even more of an antique feel. Circa 1830.
