    A French 19th Century Gold Gilt Frame with new mirror plate.  The frame has great thickness and depth.  It is intricately carved and molded on all four sides with layers of repeating designs.

    A petite Italian 19th Century Gold Gilt and Painted Mirror, with original mirror plate.  The frame is intricately carved on all four sides.  From the top, you have a small floral bouquet and carved crown that cascades into scrolled carvings down both sides terminating on small carved feet.  The inside edge of the frame has a beautiful scalloped detail.   The background of the frame is a painted light green and highlights the carvings beautifully.  

  • French 19th Century Parcel-Giltwood Mirror

    A lovely giltwood mirror, made in France circa 1850. This rectilinear antique mirror has a thick frame with a unique design that encircles its entirety. The frame was designed with a corkscrewed motif that sees diagonally oriented ribbings continuing around the mirror’s original mercury glass. The glass is in wonderful antique condition, with some foxing present. The frame  also has portions painted in a lovely creme color. Both the painted and gilt finishes have aged marvelously, with much of the giltwork’s red clay bole having become exposed from decades of cleaning and feather dustings. The antique’s style and scale make it an ideal vanity or dressing mirror, but it is not limited to those applications. It has a universal appeal that ensures its acceptance in any space. 

  • French Early 19th Century Painted and Gilt Trumeau

    An exceptional carved and painted trumeau mirror, circa 1800, France. The antique mirror features a large carved and gilt wreath that is situated in the larger shaped panel above the glass. It consists of carved and blossoming roses on one side, with a laurel branch on the other, meeting in the middle at a carved knotted ribbon with tassels. Below this wonderful work of art is the trumeau’s mirror. The mirror is nearly square, measuring 17”H x 18-½”W, and is framed by  carved and gilt trim, worked into twisted ribbon and beaded pearl motifs. The mirror’s mercury glass is original to the antique, and has aged marvelously, with some foxing and sparkles present. A small, carved rectangular panel resides beneath the mirror.

    This terrific fauxbamboo mirror was made in France, circa 1880. Its frame was made by turning hand-selected oak into a stacked-spool or faux bamboo design. The darker frame is nearly a square, which is a somewhat unusual shape for these mirrors. The oak has patinated brilliantly, with a warm and antiquated finish that is sure to solicit a glance.

    ‘Impressive’ falls short when describing this outstanding 19th century painted and gilt French pier mirror. The mirror stands tall at 8′, with remarkably intact gold gilt and intricately carved-and-painted details. The mirror has a nautical theme, with beautiful gilt crabs and sea snails found in the frieze above the mirrored glass. The mirror retains its original glass, which has a beveled edge and is bordered by brilliant gilt trim and flanked by pilaster columns. The frame is painted a sage/mint green with gray details. Both the paint and gold gilt have patinated over time, however the gilt work still bears its brilliant metallic luster and the aged paint continues to improve with time. c.1870.

    A brilliant 19th century gold gilt mantle mirror, made in France circa 1870. The mirror is large and beautiful. The frame is ornamented with bundles of flowers that can be found in its corners and sides. The gilt finish has experienced some loss due to time and hundreds of feather dustings, exposing some of the red bole substratum. Often referred to as “French Red” this facet of gilt mirrors is sought after. The frame is trimmed in a twisted cording motif. The mirror has its original mercury glass, which has some foxing and sparkles galore. The “diamond dust” has become separated from the backing and fallen into the glass. Gravity has situated much of the sparkles along the mirror’s bottom.

    A fabulous combination of old and new, this stunning mirror melds two of design’s most treasured mediums: gold and marble. The gold gilt mirror is from 19th Century France. It has remarkably well preserved gold gilt, with some French red bole exposed mostly about the beaded pearl trim. The gilt frame also has a cut and dried reeded motif that is dignified and elegant. The mirror has had a newly painted backing applied. This exceptionally well-painted faux marble is colored in tones of taupe and stone that looks like an actual slab. The mirror has had its glass replaced.

    A classic Louis Philippe mirror, from 19th century France, with carved oak frame and original glass. Often finished in a metallic gilt, this unique antique mirror has been left in its natural state, with extraordinary patina acquired from years of waxing and polishing. The oak used to construct the frame is both straight cut as well as quarter sawn. The mercury glass is antique as well, with some light foxing. c.1880.

    A spectacular English 19th century bullseye mirror, with engraved plate. This wonderful mirror has seven circular convex mirrors, or “bubbles” within the mercury glass plate. The plate also features flowers, leaves, and curled tendrils that have been artfully etched into the glass. The frame is unassuming, made of pine, and has acquired a warm patina over time.
