    Dimensions: 15-1/4″H x 14-1/4″W x 7/8″D

An interesting collection of fourteen 19th Century wax seals that retain much history. The collection is mounted on antique linen and framed in a single antique gilt frame.  Intaglios – ‘carving’ in Italian – were used to make wax seals or ‘signatures’ for correspondence letters.  Ideally, black seals were for mourning, while red seals represented love. Many of the seals have remnants of the envelope and some envelopes also have dates and signatures. Please see detailed photos for a closer look at the item’s condition and note that this is for an individual framed collection.
