Swedish 19th Century Painted Linen Press
$3,200.0078.25"H x 53.13"W x 21"D
Dimensions: 78 ¼” H x 53 ⅛” W x 21” D
A Swedish pine buffet à deux corps (that is, a cabinet on chest in two sections) with origins in the 18th century designed with features and style that suit many decorating tastes and storage needs for the modern interior. The cabinet reflects that vibrant red tone of Gustavian antiques, having been made in the 1700s, which displays charming hand-painted faux bois wood grain in the shaped panels of the door fronts. Inside are two long shelves like a linen press, over six smaller drawers that open easily by iron ring pulls. The unpainted wood displays exciting movement and color in the grain. The base section of a three drawer commode appears younger than the upper cabinet, married in the early 19th century. Three drawers use turned knobs to glide easily making this a wonderful storage option for a number of rooms around the home. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to preserve all the historic character, ready for your interior. We believe this item to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Dimensions: 32 ¾” H x 64” W x 25 ½” D
A Swedish, solid pine coffer from the 1700s, this roomy storage trunk has paneled construction graced by hand-painted illustrations in the pilasters depicting imaginative red floral stalks and a small deer, outlined by a red border in striking contrast to the deep green of the case. One key included for the spring-loaded lock that is easy to operate, ensuring a tight fit of the lid. At the base, a scalloped apron carved in delightful swells is the finishing touch to complement the whimsical artwork. Swedish Gustavian Period Bow-front Commode
$11,500.0031.50"H x 45.50"W x 23.50"D
Dimensions: 31 ½” H x 45 ½” W x 23 ½” D
A very unusual Swedish Gustavian period painted demilune commode/chest of drawers from the late 18th century in charming proportions that could easily take the place of a small buffet or console beyond clothing storage. Two spacious drawers occupy the deep case that is entirely washed in a soft gray typical of the Scandinavian taste for light palettes that aim to brighten rooms in dark winters, warmed by an intentional scraped effect revealing some of the grain underneath. Two bow-front drawers fitted with Louis XVI style hardware retain some of the original paper lining, the areas of loss (to the paper) creating another layer of tactile patina. The chest is raised on four tapered legs. By its clean lines and engaging features, this period demilune chest of drawers will make for a lovely addition to any bedroom, living room or hallway, having been gently cleaned and polished to maintain the nicely weathered finish and natural character. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Swedish Gustavian Period 18th Century Painted Commode
$11,500.0030.63"H x 40"W x 21.13"D
Dimensions: 30 ⅝” H x 40” W x 21 ⅛” D
A spectacular three-drawer commode from Sweden, circa 1790, that alludes to a Louis XVI influence met with the pared-down Nordic sensibility of both culture and time period. On top are the remains of a gray paint washing the surface which is shaped to chamfered front corners that overhang the fluted pilasters. The case of three drawers features weathered layers of rust-red paint in that delightfully tactile, scraped finish so iconic of the Gustavian style. The ruddy complexion is interrupted by small brass ring-pull hardware displaying Neoclassical urns along with oval escutcheons (however no key is present). The angled pilasters are enhanced with fluting, punctuated at the capital and base with small rosettes. A dovetail motif adornment, cut from brass, crowns the square, tapering legs. These unique elements beg for more prominent placement in the modern interior, with the scale that’s a fine alternative to a console table or small buffet. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Please view the detailed image gallery for the current condition or reach out directly with any questions.

Dimensions: 90 ½” H x 39 ½” W x 27” D

Fluted details add further depth to the raised panels of the cabinet doors, which are interrupted by a perfect circle in the middle. Inside the (unpainted) pine upper cabinet are three shelves, and the door is secured by a simple wood latch. The small opening at the waist is similarly unpainted, framed by a decorative archway that creates a small niche to store & display. Swedish 19th Century Biedermeier Chaise
$4,800.0035.50"H x 73"W x 26.25"D
Dimensions: 35 ½” H x 73” W x 26 ¼”” D
An expressive Biedermeier period chaise lounge–also called a “recamier”–dating to circa 1820 Sweden, in the manner of the famous maker Karl Johan. Resembling a gondola in silhouette, the left-arm rises from the corner to develop into an exaggerated wave with spiral (very much in the French Restauration taste for scrolled arms) before cresting again to make the lower arm on the right side. Maple wood, by its natural luminosity and elusive grain patterns, was an ideal choice in constructing the frame to underscore the sense of movement happening throughout. Currently the upholstery is a medium blue geometric jacquard that is in fair condition. Note there have been a few professional repairs made to stabilize the outer lobes of both arms but overall the frame is heavy and sturdy. Below the diamond-carved panels at the lower corners of the bench, robust turned feet elevate the frame as the final complement to the mastery in carving seen above. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

Dimensions: 33 ¾” H x 22 ⅞” W x 22 ½” D
A unique pair of Swedish late 19th century/early 20th century carved birch armchairs, the style would best be described as Biedermeier hence the beautiful blonde wood frames with Neoclassical profile and saber legs that would fit with nearly all traditional to contemporary decorating styles. The upper handrails are carved with a highly technical twisted effect flanked by turned rings as the only decorative flourish on the otherwise restrained yet elegant design. Currently the seats are upholstered in a very worn, satin material of alternating stripes in sage-green and ivory which complements the luminous frame. At 18” seat height they easily adapt for dining or as occasional chairs in a living room setting. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair only.

Dimensions: 32 ¼” H x 21 ⅝” W x 19 ⅝” D
A pair of Swedish Biedermeier armchairs from circa 1820 in birch that expresses the most extraordinary patterns (which occur naturally in the wood) but have been revealed by the skilled hand of the artisan. Seats are currently upholstered in a heavyweight twill material of complementary faded brick tone that is in worn condition but acceptable to continue using.
