French 19th Century Bamboo & Decoupage Fireplace Screen
$1,200.00
SKU: 1005-24
Dimension: 49.63"H x 31.38"W x 14"D
Dimensions: 49 ⅝” H x 31 ⅜” W x 14” D
A French fireplace screen, made circa 1890 of bamboo, recently updated in England with ebonized (painted) finish then decoupaged for an horticultural theme. Scientific illustrations of hyacinth, butterflies, and dragonflies appear gilded against the dark background which is the perfect complement to the exotic bamboo. Traditionally, in warmer months when the fireplace is not in use, a “fire screen” would add visual interest and obscure the empty fireplace from sight. We think this screen could be equally interesting as a clothing valet in the bedroom or other room dividing furniture as the illustrations are different on each side. Original manufacturer’s tag from Perret & Vibert of Paris, “House of Bamboo”, affixed to the frame. Be sure to view all the images for a closer look at this wonderful antique.

Dimensions: 77 ⅞” H x 98” W x 1” D
A mesmerizing, Spanish 19th century tooled leather folding screen–over six feet tall–embossed with floral & foliate motifs that cover the surface to expansive effect. The four connected panels are each crowned with a low arch, they feature overflowing garden urns with delicate blossoms accented in fine polychrome of blue and pink for depth against the dark leather, surrounded by dimensional Arabesque curls and geometric pattern. Canvas trim painted a glistening bronze–attached by a line of nailheads–surrounds each panel for additional contrast. Patina as expected from time and use with one puncture and general craquelure throughout. Natural canvas backing is visible on the reverse side which is undecorated but would still be fine to use this folding screen as a room divider. Please view the detailed images to see more.
