19th Century Workbench from Burgundy, France
Dimensions: 29 1/2″H x 93 5/8″W x 24 1/2″D
Innumerable projects have been completed over the years using this 19th century French workbench. Deep and sundry marks are scored into every inch of the work surface, left there by the saws and chisels of craftsmen long gone. Interesting features include a hand-forged iron holdfast as well as the hand-forged iron hardware on the styled adjustable vise that has been incorporated into the design of one of the legs. Other features include a drawer, with hand-forged pull and a lower shelf for added storage. This incredibly sturdy, thick bench would make a phenomenal sofa table. It could be used in an entry way, kitchen, or even as a workbench in a workshop! Its ties to Burgundy would make it a wonderful (and functional) conversation piece in a wine room or cellar. c.1850.
