This one of a kind armoire was custom made to showcase the fabulous pair of 19th century painted boiserie panels that now serve as the doors. Boiserie panels rose in popularity during the 18th century as a way to emulate the grandeur of the French nobility, but they also served many practical purposes like heat insulation and noise control. A marvelous, dawn- hued scene overlooking a vast countryside depicts a variety of avian species in the foreground. Antiqued brass hardware perfectly compliments the colorscape of the paintings. The left door features an interior hook to hold it closed while the right is secured with a strong magnetic door catch. The interior is painted a warm walnut color and easily houses 5 adjustable shelves with a depth of 14”. The exterior was painted to match the existing color of the door panels. The whole is slightly raised on bracket feet and adds a nice shape to the overall body. An 18th century painted wardrobe from northern Italy, displaying a particular Tyrolean-Germanic folk art style of marriage furniture, hence the charming illustrations to celebrate the happy union. The large, rectilinear volume of the wardrobe is enlivened by a grain-painted faux bois finish of energetic swirls and squiggles that long for more precious woods than the pine construction underneath. A wide door is paneled with two cartouches that enclose the polychromatic illustrations of garden urns overflowing with tightly composed floral arrangements. Forged iron hardware of working lock and hinges both inside and out are equally as expressive as the painted decoration. A capacious, 19th century French Louis Philippe style bibliothèque, handcrafted of pine with a row of four glass-front doors for displaying treasured books, heirlooms, and other collections in a living/dining room, office or library. The clean, linear order and golden color allows this timeless design to fit any number of historic and transitional decorating tastes. Behind the two pairs of locking doors are eight interior shelves (8 ¾” deep) which are adjustable on sawtooth brackets to easily reconfigure as needed. This French dark pine bookcase from the late 19th century makes a dramatic statement by its scale alone, and the crackled texture of the painted interior gives it visual intrigue to anchor any kitchen, dining room, library, or office. Below an understated cornice, two tall glass-front doors provide visibility to regard the contents on three shelves (approximately 12 ½” deep) which are adjustable. Note doors are fitted so the right side contains the lock while the left door uses a slide-bolt for security. The panes exhibit the unmistakable wavy surface and bubbles of antique glass. In subtle contrast to the chalky interior, the pine construction has taken on a deep and rich brown tone like mahogany to integrate with many other historic design styles. Swedish Gustavian Period Painted Corner Cabinet

This striking corner cabinet from 19th century Sweden is all hand-built and painted with those characteristic details so desirable of Gustavian antiques. The ethereal blue-gray paint is original to the piece and contributes a wonderful patina to harmonize in a number of interior styles. A unique cornice tops the whole, with an angular pediment flanked by scrolled projections on the corners. Fluted details add further depth to the raised panels of the cabinet doors, which are interrupted by a perfect circle in the middle. Inside the (unpainted) pine upper cabinet are three shelves, and the door is secured by a simple wood latch. An endearing 18th century Italian hand-painted buffet that departs from the strong visual codes of the Baroque period adopting the relaxed manner of Louis XV and Gustavian polychrome furniture. The tone-on-tone blue cabinet is fitted with two doors on the front side, in between nicely canted corners interrupted by narrow, paneled sections filled with abstract gradients of blue in reference to the sky. The upper surface is a dark slate whereas the majority of the exterior is cerulean. Central panels on the doors have been treated as a cartouche for artistic expression to illustrate what appears to be the casting out of Adam & Eve from the garden of Eden and their circumstances following. A twist of the turned knob on either door opens to reveal a divided interior of two sections each with a shelf, 16 ⅝” deep.
