Swedish 19th Century Gustavian Style Painted Bench
$3,200.0032"H x 54.38"W x 22.25"D
Dimensions: 32” H x 54 ⅜” W x 22 ¼” D
A delightful Swedish bench from the early 19th century, this petite settee in the classic Gustavian taste for lightness and simplicity features a chalk-white painted frame. The bench seat has been wrapped in new upholstery of plain muslin, sheltered by a pierced seat back accented with stylized carvings to represent iris (the beloved fleur-de-lis of French royalty) framed by Gothic arches. The delicate splats are variably patinated; the farthest on the right arm shows a more recent repair (see the image gallery for more information). Four elegantly tapering legs lift the piece from the floor in a unified look from tip to toe. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax–this sophisticated settee will make a fine addition to any seating arrangement, hallway, or entry. Italian Vintage Breuer Cesca Style Side Chairs with Cane Seats
$2,650.0032.75"H x 18.38"W x 20"D
Dimensions: 32 ¾” H x 18 ⅜” W x 20” D
A fantastic pair of vintage Italian “Cesca” style armless chairs in the manner of Marcel Breuer. First presented in 1928, the design has become iconic of Bauhaus minimalism intersecting with a reverence for traditional craftsmanship. The gently curved seats and seat backs are made of tightly woven cane stretched between a frame of complementary beech wood left in its natural blonde tone, cantilevered on tubular chromed steel legs that form a continuous line to achieve an effect that is light in visual weight and mass. Such thoughtful details make these chairs at home around a dining table, desk, or other seating area. “Made in Italy” stamped into the underside of the seats. Sold as a pair. French Vintage Set of Four Oak and Rush Seat Triangular Stools
$2,200.0017.75"H x 13.75"W x 13"D
Dimensions: 17 ¾” H x 13 ¾” W x 13” D
French vintage midcentury (circa 1950s) set of four, oak triangular stools with rush seats in the manner of Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Faucheux. Their approachable, intuitive forms and portability are quite versatile to switch between occasional chairs, footstools, or side tables as needed throughout the home. Expertly wrapped rush seats around the convex edges are still tight and in good condition with a few missing cords which does not affect the functionality. The oak dowel ladder-like construction of the legs remains strong, variably patinated over time. Handcrafted in France around the middle of the 20th century, the organic style of the stools has universal appeal across all historic to more contemporary interiors. Sold as a set of four. Please view the detailed images as they are an essential part of the product description.
French 19th Century Oak Louis XVI Style Marquise Armchair
$3,700.0036"H x 33.50"W x 25.50"D
Dimensions: 36” H x 33 ½” W x 25 ½” D
A Louis XVI style fauteuil from the 19th century in scaled-up proportions known as a “marquise” for accommodating a lady’s voluminous skirt. This example features timeless sophistication, beautiful lines, and restrained ornamentation that allows the gorgeous yellow-gold worn velvet upholstery to shine. Overall the upholstery is in good condition with some areas of wear, as seen in the detailed images; down feather in the removable seat cushion is still quite firm and comfortable to read or relax. Fluted carvings in the oak frame, stained to a dark mahogany tone, are carried down through the tapered legs. The wood has been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images as they are an important part of the product description.

Italian Vintage Set of Four Ebonized Upholstered Armchairs
$4,995.0034.25"H x 24"W x 19"D
Dimensions: 34 ¼” H x 24” W x 19” D
A very unusual set of four dining armchairs from Italy–1980s, the height of Postmodern and Memphis design– with stylistic references that go back to the late 19th century. The influence of Charles Rennie Mackintosh is undeniable as the chairs are stylized, even architectural in their simplification of distinct geometric lines made even more pronounced by the sturdiness of the ebonized frames. At the top of the chairs is a crescent-shaped headrest narrowing to sharp points, rising from the splat of three parallel bars set at a comfortable recline behind the upholstered seats (currently in a sage-green chenille). Vertical legs at the front and sabered legs at the back are sturdy, rising up to half-moon armrests. The openness of the design and the bold creativity invites a conversation whether placed around a dining table or a living room arrangement. Gently cleaned and polished, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images as they are an essential to the product description. Sold as a set of four only.

Dutch Painted Parcel Gilt Settee with New Upholstery
$4,995.0034.50"H x 71.75"W x 26"D
Dimensions: 34 ½” H x 71 ¾” W x 26” D
A fantastic Dutch Regency style settee from the 19th century, recently updated with new upholstery to complement the painted frame with sections of parcel gilt trim. Wrapping the tight seat-back and wide bench seat is new upholstery of a soft, chenille texture printed with dense foliate imagery inspired by French Verdure tapestry. The cushions are held in place with brass hardware (knob latches) seen from the outside that lock the panels in place and can be easily removed for servicing or to change the upholstery. The cozy interior is outlined by the painted frame in a shade of green best described as “pistachio” enhanced with sections of parcel gilt. Four tapering legs carved in a faux bamboo silhouette (also ringed in gold) across the front and sabered legs across the back are sturdy on the floor. French 19th Century Massive Directoire Settee
$6,995.0038"H x 101.63"W x 26"D
Dimensions: 38” H x 101 ⅝” W x 26” D
This massive French Directoire 19th century fruitwood bench/settee is upholstered in a regal striped fabric of saffron gold & salmon pink. While the large scale might be generous and awesome, the construction in itself gives it the presence of authority to preside over a room without ostentatious symbols: the straight, rounded handrail is held together with a visible tongue-and-groove joint at the center and three pair of robust legs support the mass of the seat. A firm bench seat appears even wider by the railroaded stripes in vertical orientation across the upholstery, aided by a visual counterpoint that comes from a pair of matching bolster cushions which are finished on the ends in the figures of brass lion heads clutching rings! A fine addition to a hallway, library, living room, or study. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

Swedish 19th Century Biedermeier Chaise
$4,800.0035.50"H x 73"W x 26.25"D
Dimensions: 35 ½” H x 73” W x 26 ¼”” D
An expressive Biedermeier period chaise lounge–also called a “recamier”–dating to circa 1820 Sweden, in the manner of the famous maker Karl Johan. Resembling a gondola in silhouette, the left-arm rises from the corner to develop into an exaggerated wave with spiral (very much in the French Restauration taste for scrolled arms) before cresting again to make the lower arm on the right side. Maple wood, by its natural luminosity and elusive grain patterns, was an ideal choice in constructing the frame to underscore the sense of movement happening throughout. Currently the upholstery is a medium blue geometric jacquard that is in fair condition. Note there have been a few professional repairs made to stabilize the outer lobes of both arms but overall the frame is heavy and sturdy. Below the diamond-carved panels at the lower corners of the bench, robust turned feet elevate the frame as the final complement to the mastery in carving seen above. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

English 19th Century Pair of Tavern Stools
$1,800.0018"H x 15"W x 10"D
Dimensions: 18” H x 15” W x 10” D
A charming pair of 19th century hand-crafted English stools, likely from a tavern or similar establishment. They are delightfully patinated from time and the occupational hazards of the service industry, reflecting a comfortable atmosphere of rustic hospitality that will transfer to one’s own home today. At a natural chair height they double as occasional seats or side tables whether used together or independently. The thick, rectangular tops are pierced by a wavy tilde opening to carry and move about. Four, turned and splayed legs are decorated with ringed carvings, otherwise their tapering forms are pure and reinforced by proportionate stretchers across the length and width. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain the historic character. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition. Sold as a pair.
Italian 18th Century Baroque Upholstered Low Stool
$1,750.0014"H x 22"W x 21"D
Dimensions: 14” H x 22” W x 21” D
Italian, Baroque/Rococo period (18th century) footstool with the most elegant carvings across the apron and cabriole legs. Presently the boxed seat is upholstered in a serene shade of periwinkle velvet–a more recent upgrade–outlined in a slightly contrasting tufted trim of light green. The floral and foliate motifs interspersed along the wood frame have a lyrical quality as they curve along the apron, a siren’s song drawing one down to appreciate the vision of the artisan, and contemplate the luxurious opulence of the period. The painted finish has delightfully patinated to a craquelure texture in earthy hues of sand which in no way diminishes the confident stance of the short, bowed feet. Passionate craftsmanship is evident in the beautifully carved details, fluid curves and ornate motifs, iconic of the 18th century Italian aesthetic that mixes with a range of interior styles today. Dimensions: 34 ½” H x 21” W x 21 ¼” D
A majestic French 19th century Directoire fauteuil armchair in charming patinated finish that reveals at least three layers of different colors painted over the carved wood frame. Currently the upholstery is a linen or linen-blend hopsack in tan, outlined by a nailhead trim. A seat cushion is removable for easy maintenance which is in worn but good condition to continue using. Small rosettes decorate the arms and junction of the legs which have fine, turned rings to accentuate their svelte profile.
