Italian 18th Century Baroque Upholstered Low Stool
$1,750.0014"H x 22"W x 21"D
Dimensions: 14” H x 22” W x 21” D
Italian, Baroque/Rococo period (18th century) footstool with the most elegant carvings across the apron and cabriole legs. Presently the boxed seat is upholstered in a serene shade of periwinkle velvet–a more recent upgrade–outlined in a slightly contrasting tufted trim of light green. The floral and foliate motifs interspersed along the wood frame have a lyrical quality as they curve along the apron, a siren’s song drawing one down to appreciate the vision of the artisan, and contemplate the luxurious opulence of the period. The painted finish has delightfully patinated to a craquelure texture in earthy hues of sand which in no way diminishes the confident stance of the short, bowed feet. Passionate craftsmanship is evident in the beautifully carved details, fluid curves and ornate motifs, iconic of the 18th century Italian aesthetic that mixes with a range of interior styles today. Swedish Pair of Louis XVI Style Stools Late 19th Century
$2,995.0017.50"H x 17.25"W x 15.50"D
Dimensions: 17 ½” H x 17 ¼” W x 15 ½” D
Fabulous pair of late 19th century Swedish Gustavian stools featuring the regal motifs of Louis XVI, toned down by the painted white frames. Firm but comfortable seats are presently upholstered in a gorgeous striped material of alternating gold and ivory bands over a natural filling (probably horse hair). At roughly chair height, these could be placed anywhere in the home for extra seating or footstools. Around the apron of the seat is a line of gilded molding punctuated by gilded rosettes at the corners. Tapering feet carved with a foliate theme on the upper half narrow toward the floor with fluted carvings that have been accented in gilt. Please view the detailed images to see more as they are an important part of the product description. Sold as a pair only.
Swedish Circa 1900 Pair of Carved Birch Benches
$2,200.0024"H x 24.75"W x 13.75"D
Dimensions: 24” H x 24 ¾” W x 13 ¾” D
Delightful pair of Swedish late 19th century/early 20th century carved birch benches with upholstered seats. The style would best be described as Biedermeier, hence the beautiful blonde wood frames with Neoclassical arms and saber legs that would fit with nearly all traditional to contemporary decorating styles. The upper rod of the arms are carved with a highly technical twisted effect like a handle, flanked by turned rings as the only decorative flourish on the otherwise restrained yet elegant design. Currently the seats are upholstered in a worn, satin material of alternating stripes in sage-green and ivory which complements the luminous frame. At 17” seat height they are easily adaptable as a vanity bench, footstools, and more. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair only.

English 18th Century Oak Storage Bench
$2,995.0019.50"H x 53.38"W x 14"D
Dimensions: 19 ½” H x 53 ⅜” W x 14” D
A charming English oak storage bench from circa 1730. However primitive in construction, such an uncomplicated design is what makes it versatile for an entryway, hall, or mudroom. One could even use it as a traditional “footlocker”, that is a trunk placed at the end of a bed. Lift the narrow lid on the top and one finds a deep and wide storage compartment. Note the presence of two iron locks still intact but neither key is present. Side planks with triangular notches cut out (to suggest feet) elevate the trunk from the floor. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax–ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more.

$3,600.0020"H x 68.75"W x 15.75"D
Dimensions: 20” H x 68 ¾” W x 15 ¾” D
An English oak rectangular bench from the late 19th century with three pairs of turned legs to lift the seat, that has been upholstered more recently in a practical, faux leather. The robust proportions of the bench integrate the timeless charm of oak with the technical sophistication of turned legs (without the need for stretchers), keeping the design elevated and refined to suit a number of interior decoration tastes. Upholstery in a mottled brown faux leather accented by a nailhead trim is cohesive with the style, offering the peace of mind and easy maintenance to enjoy this bench in nearly any scenario: hallways, dining and living rooms, offices, or bedrooms. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax this versatile bench is ready to join your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

Swedish 19th Century Maple Biedermeier Settee
$5,995.0040"H x 93.38"W x 22.13"D
Dimensions: 40” H x 93 ⅜” W x 22 ⅛” D
This wonderful 19th century maple settee from Sweden features classic Biedermeier design elements adapted to Scandinavian tastes for lightness and simplicity, using only the finest quality materials and techniques. A wide bench seat is wrapped in woven horsehair upholstery of black and brown strands, sheltered by a pierced seat back accented with ebonized fretwork. Stiles of maple and a handrail of quarter-sawn planks reveal shimmering waves in the grain to contrast the dark, opaque ebonized sections. Rising from the toprail is a pediment filled with the same ebonized effect for a unified look from tip to toe; four pairs of elegantly tapering legs lift the piece from the floor. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax this sophisticated settee will make a fine addition to a living room, hallway, or library. Please view the detailed images to see more.

A French, 19th century rectangular turned oak footstool with (more recent) printed canvas upholstery on the seat. English 18th Century Oak Settle Bench
$3,900.0039.88"H x 72.25"W x 26.25"D
Dimensions: 39 ⅞” H x 72 ¼” W x 26 ¼” D
A circa 1780 English oak settle or bench of stately carved details. With a finely paneled back of grand proportions–long enough to comfortably seat three or four people–this lovely settle is framed by graceful arms shaped and thoughtfully cut away as an inviting and comfortable feature. A squab–or bench cushion–upholstered in soft green and ivory foliate pattern rests on railroaded wood stretchers for support. The seat filling is densely packed with natural fibers of uncertain equine (horse hair) or vegetal origin. Note that the fabric is in poor condition with stains and discoloration. Elevating the whole are three turned and tapering pad-footed front legs, quite thick, and three squared back legs to sit flush against a wall. The wood frame has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to reveal every historic character. Please view the detailed images.

$4,295.0021.25"H x 41.25"W x 12.13"D
Dimensions: 21 ¼” H x 41 ¼” W x 12 ⅛” D
Exceptional, solid oak joint stool-bench from England, 1700’s, with stunning grain pattern to bring history and patina to any home. Joint stools were often made by apprentices as a test to their skill level. Restrained in design, this example offers a rectangular top of a single plank, in swirls of toffee and mahogany color animating the grain pattern. Overhanging edges are routed to a low slope. Evidence of hand carving, along with the expected patina from nearly three centuries of use is visible in the apron and four turned legs connected by stretchers. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, this bench is ready for your interior as seating, a display surface, or an unexpected coffee table. Please view the detailed images.
