A dazzling French gilt bronze and crystal chandelier from the mid-20th century to illuminate your dining room, foyer, or other glamorous space. This Maison Baguès style frame has true depth and sculptural interest from a hammered, or chiseled, texture beneath the gilding that has aged to patchy craquelure and areas of dark patina. It is mounted to the ceiling by a large canopy of giltwood, carved in a stylized sun or sunflower design bursting into spiky corona. The multitude of tiers and scrolled hooks are dripping with a variety of glass shapes: pendalogues, stars, chains, and a crystal ball to catch the light from six faux candles using candelabra-base bulbs. This French 19th century slender chandelier is made of gilt bronze and accented with dainty foliate and Neoclassical motifs in lieu of crystals. The elongated fixture incorporates a crown of plumes from which the column descends, cast with a slightly ruched texture to mimic the folds of a silk chandelier chain cover. Draped from the crown to the arms are chains strung with alternating acanthus and beads, repeated underneath the three arms which branch into six lights (for candelabra-base bulbs). From there the chandelier column tapers into a thin spike decorated with an artichoke finial at the point. A spectacular and heavy French chandelier from the late 19th century, cast in bronze with abundant Neoclassical decorative motifs imparting texture and variety to the six-light form. The scale and grandeur would indicate this fixture was likely designed for a lobby or similar environment where the quality of light is equally important as affecting a sense of wonder and amazement. Swirled, blown glass diffusers protect candelabra-base bulbs rising from gently curved arms draped with acanthus leaf designs.
