Against a pale background of blue and gray, the bouquet at center overflows from the green pitcher with bursts of pastel flowers. The linen matting of a harmonious khaki-tone is actually more recent, floating the artwork in the wooden frame that has been painted an oxblood red with stylized apple or cherry blossoms. This small painting will surely command attention in any gallery wall collection but has the presence to stand on its own as well. Ready to hang in your interior. An early 20th-century gilt framed oil on canvas painting by French artist Jean Didier-Tourné (1882-1967), depicting a lean, mustached male nude in a kind of contraposto stance as he turns away from the viewer in silhouette. The background palette is deliberately muted that obscures the paintings on the wall behind him, creating a horizon line at the middle contrasting the gray-green upper against a burnt sienna below. His pale body is not only a figure study of human anatomy but one of shadow & light as the muscles are illuminated. Overall the minimal composition is captivating for its tense juxtapositions. Framed by a gold gilt molding with thin reeded design. Signed on the front with additional text on the back to place in context of Rome circa 1911. A vintage portrait by Belgian artist Edmond Delescluze (1905-1993). The subject is a young woman with fair hair and skin, her classic Flemish profile set off by a red hat decorated with ostrich feathers and a gaze concentrated toward the left of the scene. Behind her is a surreal landscape of pastel blue, pink, and yellow perhaps the waning hours of daylight. Around her is wrapped a diaphanous pink shawl exposing a gold necklace with a locket, which must have some importance considering the level of detail applied.
