Dimensions: 7 ½” H x 2 ¾” W x 2 ⅞” D
A small but intriguing cast bronze hand from early to mid-20th century France. This tiny sculptural work–perhaps a maquette for a larger art piece–is mounted on a wooden base that elevates it to greater presence in a shelf display or tabletop arrangement. The holes in the palm appear to be original from the casting process and not areas of loss. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Framed Set of 18th Century Portuguese Tiles
$650.001.25"H x 12"W x 12"D
Dimensions: 1 ¼” H x 12” W x 12” D
The artistry and industry of Portuguese azulejos tiles is a tradition that dates back many centuries; as a practical, architectural surface to cover both interior and exterior walls without missing the opportunity to make a strong visual impact. This collection of four, patinated tiles from the 18th century has been more recently assembled into a panel set in a wooden frame to appreciate the charm of their handpainted design (hence the subtle variation between them) incorporating stylized geometric and floral motifs rendered in blue and lavender glazes on white-slip clay. Whether used in place of a trivet on a table, displayed on a surface, or hung on a wall this inspiring memento will delight in any interior. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. French Vintage Framed Nude Drawing
$1,200.0022.63"H x 40"W x 1.25"D
Dimensions: 22 ⅝” H x 40” W x 1 ¼” D
French, early to mid 20th century gouache on paper nude portrait of a young woman who remains anonymous to the viewer with only her backside displayed. Taken as a figure study and not a portrait, her form becomes an abstract series of shapes rising up to a dark curtain of hair falling over her neck in an otherwise monochromatic palette. A soft-focus, flattering light makes the subject’s pink skin glow against the dreamy, hazy background devoid of context that feels both modern and timeless. Some foxing of the paper, protected by a painted white frame of similar age and condition. Faint signature to the lower right. We believe this item to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. A oval, ebonized frame with gilt beaded trim draws the viewer in. On the reverse side are the remains of some biographical information handwritten on paper, giving her name and date of birth. Above, thick clouds appear to yield to the breaking dawn which reveal the blue skies above. The composition and techniques draw comparison to the Impressionist mannerisms of the famous French artist Alexandre Louise Jacob however the stamp of authenticity from the printing house, Cercle de la Librairie in Paris, would place this much earlier. Indistinct signature and title in pencil on the bottom margin. Matting includes a “French line” pinstriping to complement the aqueous translucency of the color palette; framed under glass in a stunning acanthus-motif molding of gold gilt with exposed red bole.
