A Swedish pine buffet à deux corps (that is, a cabinet on chest in two sections) with origins in the 18th century designed with features and style that suit many decorating tastes and storage needs for the modern interior. Swedish Gustavian Period Bow-front Commode
$11,500.0031.50"H x 45.50"W x 23.50"D
Dimensions: 31 ½” H x 45 ½” W x 23 ½” D
A very unusual Swedish Gustavian period painted demilune commode/chest of drawers from the late 18th century in charming proportions that could easily take the place of a small buffet or console beyond clothing storage. Two spacious drawers occupy the deep case that is entirely washed in a soft gray typical of the Scandinavian taste for light palettes that aim to brighten rooms in dark winters, warmed by an intentional scraped effect revealing some of the grain underneath. Two bow-front drawers fitted with Louis XVI style hardware retain some of the original paper lining, the areas of loss (to the paper) creating another layer of tactile patina. The chest is raised on four tapered legs. By its clean lines and engaging features, this period demilune chest of drawers will make for a lovely addition to any bedroom, living room or hallway, having been gently cleaned and polished to maintain the nicely weathered finish and natural character. Swedish Gustavian Period 18th Century Painted Commode
$11,500.0030.63"H x 40"W x 21.13"D
Dimensions: 30 ⅝” H x 40” W x 21 ⅛” D
A spectacular three-drawer commode from Sweden, circa 1790, that alludes to a Louis XVI influence met with the pared-down Nordic sensibility of both culture and time period. On top are the remains of a gray paint washing the surface which is shaped to chamfered front corners that overhang the fluted pilasters. The case of three drawers features weathered layers of rust-red paint in that delightfully tactile, scraped finish so iconic of the Gustavian style. The ruddy complexion is interrupted by small brass ring-pull hardware displaying Neoclassical urns along with oval escutcheons (however no key is present). The angled pilasters are enhanced with fluting, punctuated at the capital and base with small rosettes. A dovetail motif adornment, cut from brass, crowns the square, tapering legs. These unique elements beg for more prominent placement in the modern interior, with the scale that’s a fine alternative to a console table or small buffet. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Dutch 18th Century Oak Kussenkast Armoire
$5,985.0072.50"H x 64.25"W x 24.75"D
Dimensions: 72 ½” H x 64 ¼” W x 24 ¾” D
An extraordinary Dutch wardrobe made in the late Renaissance period, 18th century. This substantial antique work of storage furniture is all hand-crafted of solid oak, some panels with “tigering” that creates a rippled appearance in the wood to fascinate in any room for storage of linens, clothing, or household essentials. Two thick, paneled doors work in tandem by functioning lock and key to enclose the divided interior: the right door is fitted with the lock while the left door is secured by a forged iron slide bolt in the top. The doors open to reveal two fixed shelves per side, ranging from 13 ½” – 19 ¼” deep over a pair of shallow drawers in the base opening by turned wood knobs. It appears that a small hanging rod was once added to the right-side cabinet which has since been removed leaving the brackets in place to retrofit to one’s own unique needs and taste. One of the most distinguishing features of this piece are the ebonized, bun feet whose roundness and proportions are a delightful contrast to the geometry above. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, this antique storage cabinet is ready for your interior. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Dimensions: 38 ¾” H x 60 ⅝” W x 16” D
A spectacular cabinet/credenza from England circa 1850, displaying many of the audacious characteristics as the Third Empire style of France within the same time period. Presented in an approachable, demilune form the curved case is emphasized by luxurious materials and techniques on every surface: opaque ebonized woods make a graphic contrast against the luminous, figured maple inlaid with geometric and foliate marquetry set off by gilt ormolu beading on the edges. Quarter-round cabinets on the left and right have full visibility through curved glass doors to view the contents arranged on velvet-lined shelves. Behind the locking door at center adorned with a marquetry cartouche, the interior is also lined in a worn velvet which wraps around a single shelf, 11 ¾” deep. The whole is raised on a plinth base. One key included. This fabulous piece of display furniture has been gently cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax to reveal all of the historic character–ready for your interior. Dimensions: 70 ¾” H x 82” W x 17 ¼” D
English early 20th century shop display case in a gorgeous marquetry-trimmed mahogany frame with three glass shelves mounted on steel brackets against a fabric lining. The narrow crown is emphasized by a line of marquetry in alternating dark and light woods in a cable twist effect for implied movement as it wraps around the angular (chamfered) corners. Three glass shelves disappear into the fabric lining the case which reads as a beach glass color, slightly faded in abstract patches from blue to celadon which is a lovely complement to the warmth of the mahogany. Decorative pilasters on the front are carved with a slight groove and outlined in painted gilt trim. There is evidence of a track on the top and bottom where there was once a set of sliding doors that have since been removed for easy access and engagement with personal collections of books, porcelain, trophies, and more.
