French 18th Century Carved Ebonized and Gilt Mirror
Dimensions: 45-1/2″H x 34-1/4″W x 2-1/4″D
This incredible 18th century mirror was made in France, circa 1780. The rectilinear mirror has a hand-carved frame with an ebony finish that has developed an antiqued patina that only two hundred and forty years can impart. A carved cartouche crowns the mirror’s frame, with scrolled acanthus garlands gracing the top and bottom. A gold-gilt border is seen between the glass and ebonized frame. The mirror’s glass is unparalleled in beauty. The original mercury glass has been transformed over time, developing a patinated finish that is simply brilliant. The seasoned mirror has a mystic air about it, as though its reflection may give you a glimpse into the past.
