An extraordinary French 19th century vanity or hall tree that could serve many functions around the home to anchor an entryway, hall or dressing room in need of a statement piece of furniture with storage. Made in the Art Nouveau taste, this pier-style mirror is composed of an original, elongated beveled mirror plate that displays an intriguing haze of dark foxing throughout, towering over the console/cabinet and shelves (secured by a series of dowels to disassemble as needed). All the wooden construction is painted in a thick creamy white with parcel gilt details to achieve a sense of lightness against the grand proportions. A stylized pediment above the glass features a gilded floral crown which sets the tone for the biophilic and gilt elements worked into every component of the frame, as botanical references, rosettes, or simply lines painted on the turned wood baluster columns. At the waist is a small inset surface of red marble, the perfect drop-area console for keys and other personal effects; the stone features exciting movement of deep red and gray veining which complements the openwork frame using curvaceous brackets to support the shelves. Below the marble surface is a wide cabinet enclosed by a fall-front door graced by the gilded cameo of a woman in profile surrounded by fantastic gilt blossoms. An open shelf at the feet adds further surface area for decoration or storage depending on the context. Gently cleaned and polished, ready to be installed in your interior. French 19th Century Gentleman’s Dressing Table

A distinct and stately Neoclassical gentleman’s dressing table from France, perhaps inspired by the influential English aesthete Beau Brummell whose high standards for personal appearance became legendary. Crafted from rich mahogany, the architectural design of the chest features a gray Turquin marble tray on top, elevated by carved and turned columns decorated with brass applications like inset stars. To the right of the frieze is a shallow drawer located by a tiny brass ring pull. At the back of the lower marble surface is a mirror, framed in mahogany, which can be raised to the top by sliding out the marble tray above and lifting the mirror panel by an attached ring. This curious and ingenious contraption is secured by a push button to release and guide the mirror back down. Three drawers in the lower body form a small chest to keep personal effects or grooming tools. Cleaned and polished with French paste wax to bring out the vanity’s distinctive features and excellent quality, such a sophisticated design could easily be displayed in living rooms as an occasional table or petite bar. A petite ebonized vanity with bone inlay detail from the 1800s, France. The unadorned vanity top opens on brass hinges to reveal an inset mirror for checking one’s appearance, enclosing a shallow compartment fitted with a removable and sliding tray of three sections, over a drawer that will slide forward only when the top lid is up to double the work surface. Around the apron one finds intricate, geometric bone inlay complemented by an ornate rococo cartouche on the drawer front. Fantastic Louis XVI style legs with turned and fluted designs are met with a coordinating stretcher just above the floor, also inlaid with fine strips of bone to coordinate back to the case. This exceptional French 19th century Empire mahogany dressing table is complete with its original mercury glass mirror and charcoal and white marble top. The arched mirror displays some deterioration and is framed in a way that beautifully showcases the wood grain. It is supported by columns that are adorned with the bust and feet of a Greco-Roman style female. The apron houses a single lockable drawer with a decorative urn form escutcheon- one key is included. Within the drawer, 5 pre-sectioned spaces provide wonderful organization. Like the mirror supports, the front legs are embellished with ormolu in the figure of a woman, the quintessence of Empire style. This gorgeous dressing table is the perfect combination of form and function. The whole is made of mahogany and the top is stunning white marble. Complete with its original mercury mirror, you’ll be able to see beautiful foxing. The glass is held by a pivoting oval frame and fixed to flanking obelisks. The single drawer facade features stunning floral ormolu details around the key-hole. One key is included to open the flush drawer and reveals a pre-sectioned interior, making it easier to organize personal items like jewelry or ties. The frieze section is supported by columnar front legs with ormolu capitals and bases, with the whole elevated on bun-feet. A single lockable drawer is housed in the apron which has an ormolu escutcheon plate flanked by additional brass ormolu mounts to the outer edges.
