French 19th Century Empire Commode

A dignified Empire commode from 19th century France, circa 1830. A fantastic slab of Belgian marble tops the beautifully patinated bookmatched mahogany base. A hidden drawer with decorative rossett ormolu, sits flush at the top of the commode. Flanking the bank of drawers are columns with decorative brass capitals and bases. The ornate hardware throughout is quite unique. The three main drawers are each fixed with a pair of detailed lion face drop ring pulls that were added more recently. Lovely escutcheons depict swan forms among florals. Although the locks no longer function and no keys are present, the drawer pulls make this commode very easy to use. Cleaned and polished with French wax paste; all drawers slide open smoothly. There are a few minor imperfections visible on the marble tops edge.
