French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Banquette
$2,200.0037.13"H x 66.50"W x 32.50"D
Dimensions: 37 ⅛” H x 66 ½” W x 32 ½” D
A timeless banquette (or small occasional sofa) in the Louis XVI taste dating from the 19th century. Its carved and painted wood frame shelters the upholstered interior of single bench cushion, tight seatback, and a single round toss cushion all dressed in a (worn, with some staining) blush-tone dotted velvet. In classic 18th century fashion the straight top rail across the back makes a clean silhouette that is open and inviting, before sloping down to become the left-facing corner, leaving the right side open to use this like a day bed or “fainting couch”. Louis XVI legs of tapering silhouette and fluted carvings elevate the piece from the floor. The effect is a sculptural statement to delight in a bedroom, living space, or as a banquette for a kitchen dining nook–becoming one’s favorite place to lounge and relax. Please view the detailed images to see more of this comfortable and inviting settee. We recommend reupsholstering with a new cushion and fabric.

Fans of the pioneering furniture designer Emile-Jacque Ruhlmann will delight in this glamorous French Art Deco period chaise. A swooping crest of a seat back rises from the left side to form the right-facing arm, over a single bench cushion outlined by the walnut frame. More elegant than a fainting couch, the effect is a sculptural statement to use as a daybed or chaise longue in a bedroom or living space, becoming one’s favorite place to lounge and relax. Currently the chaise is upholstered with a nailhead trim around tan faux suede of fair condition although the internal cushioning remains firm and comfortable. Subtle carvings in the gently tapered feet indicate every aspect of the design is an opportunity to convey a sense of luxury and good taste.
