SKU: 4510-5
Dimension: 35.25"H x 22.13"W x 1.63"D
Dimensions: 35 ¼” H x 22 ⅛” W x 1 ⅝” D
A magnificent 19th century French giltwood tabernacle style mirror in the Louis XVI taste, the exquisite Neoclassical carvings around the (dark green) painted frame appear even more theatrical under a layer of gold. At the top of the piece is an anthemion design rising out of a fountain from which two swans drink. Their feathers spread toward the edges of the frame morphing into glorious scrolls. The frame takes an architectural quality with two wide columns on either side–of the Corinthian order–with capitals of implied foliate decoration matching the garland at the middle, and terminating with a kind of gadroon texture on the column bases. Mirror plate is likely a more recent replacement, the glass shows no foxing and crystals are absent; it is surrounded by low-relief carved gilt moulding outlined in a dark green painted molding. Strung with cord, ready to hang in your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

French 19th Century Empire Trumeau Mirror
$6,200.0067"H x 42"W x 4"D
Dimensions: 67” H x 42” W x 4” D
A large 19th century French Empire trumeau mirror that is bold yet refined, using Neoclassical decorative elements to project a respect for history and luxury. Across the frieze along the top, over the weathered “French gray” painted wood frame, are a series of symbolic appliqués in gilded finish: lyres on the outer edges flank a linear acanthus-anthemion design that emanates from a central medallion occupied by the face of a Greco-Roman figure. Crowing the gilded pilasters to the left and right of the mirror plate/s are laurel wreath emblems to further the references to antiquity. The original mirror plates (stacked one on top of the other) remain quite clear to use this piece over a mantel or vanity, having developed a few areas of dark foxing concentrated to the edges and corners. The original mercury mirror glass shimmers with a layer of crystals beginning to accumulate on the bottom edge. Note that the finishes of this striking mirror have been retouched to maintain their color. Please view the detailed images to see more, and the current condition.

Dimensions: 48 ⅛” H x 31” W x 2” D
A lovely pair of gilt mirrors from 19th century France, their strong proportions of the arch-top frames are emphasized by red bole clay peeking through the shimmering gold. Restrained molding is smooth and rounded, given variation and texture by patina to the gilding, which confirms their historic age. Dark spots of foxing are present in the glass of only one mirror, however the condition of the more recent plate would indicate that it’s not a new replacement. Hung together or separately this antique mirror pair has the scale to make a big impact in any room. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair only.
French 19th Century Louis Philippe Silver Gilt Mirror
$5,600.0057.50"H x 43.25"W x 1.75"D
Dimensions: 57 ½” H x 43 ¼” W x 1 ¾” D
Orderly and architecturally inspired, the silver-gilt frame of this 19th century Louis Philippe mirror is meticulously etched with a coin-edge pattern along the arched frame. The satin texture is subtle and refined, given depth and variation by dark oxidation of the silver particularly in the beaded trim around the mirror plate. No obvious foxing in the glass to blur the reflection so likely the mirror plate is a 20th century replacement. The scale is perfect to make a big impact in any room. Dimensions: 59 ½” H x 46 ⅛” W x 2 ½” D
This French Empire mirror (c. 1800) is symmetrical to hang in either direction, exhibiting low-relief floral decorations that leave ample space for the gilt molding to reveal its red bole underneath the gold–adding warmth and texture to the rectilinear design. The molding is largely plain and smooth, with rococo theme garlands of botanical and scallop shell motif stationed at the corners and midpoints along the perimeter. The original mirror plate reflects a fine dusting of crystals among the foxing, which draws the viewer in for a closer look. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

$5,200.0061.88"H x 34.25"W x 6"D
Dimensions: 61 ⅞” H x 34 ¼” W x 6” D
An impressive Louis Philippe gold gilt mirror with signature arched corners at the top, crested with an ornate floral “crown” of baroque flamboyance. The molding is traced with a subtle foliate design, enhanced by the red bole substrate coming through the gold gilt for tactile interest and dimension. Forming a kind of pediment atop the tall frame is the ornamental crest which uses the familiar imagery of rococo tastes (scrolling details, flora) to project abundance and luxury within the restrained sophistication of the Louis Philippe period. Traced by a narrow, beaded trim is the original mirror plate–barely touched by oxidized foxing–but glittering with an accumulation of crystals along the bottom edge. Dimensions: 40” H x 22” W x 2 ⅜” D
A grand, 19th century French mirror of the Louis XVI taste, with incredible giltwood carvings over the green-painted back panel. At the top of the piece, foliate carvings of grape vines and laurel encircle a pair of lovebirds and a burning torch; the botanical theme carried down to the upper edges of the frame to soften the geometric rigidity of the pane. The mirror plate appears to be a modern replacement, the glass protected by a low, beaded chapelet (rosary) trim. At the lower corners are ornately carved feet, to lift and protect the delicate work. French 19th Century Large Cushion Mirror
$9,600.0064"H x 40.50"W x 4.50"D
Dimensions: 64” H x 40 ½” W x 4 ½” D
An extraordinary cushion mirror from 19th century France, the reflective qualities are secondary to the artistry seen in the gilded, repoussé metal decoration cascading from the pediment on top to surround the glass on every plane. In the crown are high-relief representations of botanical themes and a few military references like flags, arrows, and drums à la Louis XVI. The rectangular mirror at center projects outward from the frame, dazzling with crystals along the bottom edge which calls attention to the hand-cut bevel around the perimeter. Moving outward from the center, a border of the cushioned metal is edged in a ebonized wood molding of reeded texture that is repeated toward the outer border of mirrored panels ornamented with elaborate corners and stations in between. The mirror plates are original, exhibiting varying degrees of foxing and a thin haze of oxidation. Please note there are some areas of loss to the metal and general patina, view the detailed images to see the current condition and remarkable craft within this cushion mirror.

French 19th Century Louis Philippe Painted Bistro Mirror
$5,500.0046.75"H x 78.50"W x 1.63"D
Dimensions: 46 ¾” H x 78 ½” W x 1 ⅝” D
A cheerful piece of history and architecture, this enormous Louis Philippe style mirror dating to the late 19th century was originally part of the decor in a French bistro. Arched corners round out the wide, rectangular form of the painted frame; as found, the likely gold gilt finish was covered in a wash of burnt orange paint more recently. Where the paint has chipped off to reveal the wood underneath one might notice a carved foliate pattern–typical of the Louis Philippe style–with other areas of patina that contribute to the overall artistic flair of the mirror. The original mirror plate is speckled with several constellations of foxing and dark oxidation that unifies the overall effect to make an eyecatching statement in any interior. French 20th Century Steel Frame Mirror
$3,200.0043.25"H x 34.50"W x 2"D
Dimensions: 43 ¼” H x 34 ½” W x 2” D
A rather unique French mirror from the early 20th century, made of a steel frame that is embossed with four-leaf clover icons and stylized flowers, mounted on a wooden casing like a window. Each corner is defined by angular flanges that extend beyond the frame, emphasizing the beveled slope leading inward toward the mirror plate. A line of circular, quatrefoil symbols dot the outer band of molding, impressed upon the metal to leave areas of oxidation that give definition to their shape. The (original) mirror glass appears frosted with foxing of craquelure texture and light oxidation. Shown in vertical orientation, symmetrical to mount in either direction. A dramatic and theatrical late 19th Century carved and gilt frame, made in Glasgow, Scotland by picture framers Menzies & Son according to the original label affixed to the back. This amazing frame, at first glance, appears to be inspired by French rococo, with thick, scrolling foliate and shell motifs wrapping the edges against a reticulated background that plays on a sense of depth and texture. The artistry in this piece is reflective of a flourishing creative environment during the period known as the Glasgow School, a regional style parallel to Art Nouveau. Displayed in vertical orientation, the frame is symmetrical to hang in either direction. Mirror plate is a more recent addition. Please view the detailed images to see more of this incredible mirror.
