French Art Nouveau Gilt Console Table
$4,500.0029.50"H x 39.50"W x 17.50"D
Dimensions: 29 ½” H x 39 ½” W x 17 ½” D
French Art Nouveau giltwood console table circa 1900, a sculptural piece of furniture that expresses the artistry of the period when every aspect of interior design was an opportunity to minimize the geometry of the built environment softened with biomorphic references. This example has a shaped, white marble top that is slightly lobed at the front corners flowing in line with the gently arching splay of the two legs (the only legs meaning the piece needs to be secured to a wall for safety). An entanglement of floral and ribbon carvings decorate the bowed profile, which meet in the center of the apron as a pendant with a single flower. Note how the smooth luster of the gilded finish is truly dazzling to behold, like a piece of fine jewelry for the home. A stretcher joining the legs seems to make a connection to the poetry of Japanese floral arrangements, using the slight asymmetry for visual tension. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition as there might be some previous repairs to the legs. Marble shows the expected patina of dark spots and fine scratches.
French 19th Century Directoire Fauteuil

Dimensions: 34 ½” H x 21” W x 21 ¼” D
A majestic French 19th century Directoire fauteuil armchair in charming patinated finish that reveals at least three layers of different colors painted over the carved wood frame. The most recent color is a pale, buttery cream, blending with a stone gray, and where those have chipped off a pastel turquoise is exposed. Currently the upholstery is a linen or linen-blend hopsack in tan, outlined by a nailhead trim. A seat cushion is removable for easy maintenance which is in worn but good condition to continue using. Small rosettes decorate the arms and junction of the legs which have fine, turned rings to accentuate their svelte profile. It appears a crack on the chair’s right arm was professionally repaired, which is almost imperceptible under the textured paint. Dimensions: 32 ¼” H x 21 ⅝” W x 19 ⅝” D
A pair of Swedish Biedermeier armchairs from circa 1820 in birch that expresses the most extraordinary patterns (which occur naturally in the wood) but have been revealed by the skilled hand of the artisan. Seats are currently upholstered in a heavyweight twill material of complementary faded brick tone that is in worn condition but acceptable to continue using. They are a natural seat height for dining, and generous in scale to incorporate as occasional chairs for a living room setting. Dimensions: 38 ¼” H x 37 ½” W x 16 ¾” D
An English 19th century painted pine chest of drawers made in the Regency taste with faux bamboo carving on the trim for an exotic touch. Smooth ivory paint gives a fresh and light update to the classic silhouette (like a sturdy campaign chest); each drawer opens by large, turned wood knobs in ebonized effect, surrounded by a pinstripe line to suggest a paneled drawer front echoing the accents on the trim, which are defined at the nodes with hand-painted dark gray brushstrokes. Cleaned and tightened, this chest is ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more of this inspired chest.
