$1,850.0026.38"H x 18.38"W x 2.25"D
Dimensions: 26 ⅜” H x 18 ⅜” W x 2 ¼” D
Fabulous Neoclassical inspired trumeau mirror from 19th century France with stylized motifs in parcel gilt. In the center of the frieze are two gilded, cherub-like figures wearing only swags of carefully draped fabric flanking a pedestal that lifts what appears to be an accumulation of flowers. Note that the character to the right side has lost its face and the void is filled with paint in an attempt to obscure that fact. The pair are flanked by lyres and vertically oriented laurel branches emanating from the top of the fluted columns to the left and right of the original mirror glass like a tabernacle-style mirror. The wood backing has been painted a dusky shade of blue–almost Prussian–that makes a nice complement to the gilt and the dark haze of foxing across the reflection. A line of foliate decoration extends across the bottom edge of the frame in between the two protective feet. Please view the detailed images to see more of this exciting trumeau mirror.
French 19th Century Gold Gilt Mirror
$2,600.0025.25"H x 22.13"W x 2.75"D
Dimensions: 25 ¼” H x 22 ⅛” W x 2 ¾” D
A stunning French 19th century gold gilt mirror with impressive carving techniques to illustrate the frame in foliate motifs. Resembling an Italianate style popular in the 18th century, each corner projects slightly outward from the rectangular shape, making room for delicate scrolling designs and leafy patterns to appear in subtle contrast to the matte gilt with craquelure patina. Surrounding the oval mirror plate is a thick border that is an amalgamation of several molding techniques: a cable twist, laurel leaves, foliate/acanthus, and beaded texture on the interior. Shown in vertical orientation, the frame could be mounted in either direction. One small, dark spot of foxing in the glass but no other evidence to confirm that it’s original to the piece. Be sure to view the detailed images to see more.
Reproduction Radiant Starburst Mirror

Dimensions: 25 ½” H x 25 ½” W x ⅜” D

The angular rays radiate in alternating short or long peaks around the perfectly circular mirror plate, handpainted with swirls of amber and chestnut interrupted by elongated black dots. As a unique work, this mirror could suit a multitude of decorating tastes and rooms, hung alone or part of a gallery wall. Please view the detailed images to see more.
French 19th Century Empire Trumeau Mirror
$6,200.0067"H x 42"W x 4"D
Dimensions: 67” H x 42” W x 4” D
A large 19th century French Empire trumeau mirror that is bold yet refined, using Neoclassical decorative elements to project a respect for history and luxury. Across the frieze along the top, over the weathered “French gray” painted wood frame, are a series of symbolic appliqués in gilded finish: lyres on the outer edges flank a linear acanthus-anthemion design that emanates from a central medallion occupied by the face of a Greco-Roman figure. Crowing the gilded pilasters to the left and right of the mirror plate/s are laurel wreath emblems to further the references to antiquity. The original mirror plates (stacked one on top of the other) remain quite clear to use this piece over a mantel or vanity, having developed a few areas of dark foxing concentrated to the edges and corners. The original mercury mirror glass shimmers with a layer of crystals beginning to accumulate on the bottom edge. Note that the finishes of this striking mirror have been retouched to maintain their color. Please view the detailed images to see more, and the current condition.
French Pair of 19th Century Arched Gilt Mirrors

Dimensions: 48 ⅛” H x 31” W x 2” D
A lovely pair of gilt mirrors from 19th century France, their strong proportions of the arch-top frames are emphasized by red bole clay peeking through the shimmering gold. Restrained molding is smooth and rounded, given variation and texture by patina to the gilding, which confirms their historic age. Dark spots of foxing are present in the glass of only one mirror, however the condition of the more recent plate would indicate that it’s not a new replacement. Hung together or separately this antique mirror pair has the scale to make a big impact in any room. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair only.
French 19th Century Louis Philippe Silver Gilt Mirror

Orderly and architecturally inspired, the silver-gilt frame of this 19th century Louis Philippe mirror is meticulously etched with a coin-edge pattern along the arched frame. The satin texture is subtle and refined, given depth and variation by dark oxidation of the silver particularly in the beaded trim around the mirror plate. No obvious foxing in the glass to blur the reflection so likely the mirror plate is a 20th century replacement. The scale is perfect to make a big impact in any room.
