French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Walnut & Marble Commode

A unique painted bow-front commode/chest of drawers from the late 18th century in striking finishes and proportions that beg for a prominent spot in the home like a small buffet or console beyond clothing storage. Its red marble top, likely a type of Campan Mélange, shows exciting movement of gray and white veins throughout the red-maroon stone that has been cut and polished to a sloping bullnose edge. Two wide, spacious drawers occupy the deep case that bears the remains of a tonal blue painted scheme which has worn significantly to reveal the blond pine grain underneath. Both drawers open easily by pairs of solid, cast brass drop handles with satisfying heft. The chest is raised on four tapered legs in a slight cabriole scroll, armored at the feet with acanthus applications in gilt bronze. By its lines and engaging features, this period demilune chest of drawers will make for a lovely addition to any room, having been gently cleaned and waxed to maintain the nicely weathered finish and natural character. A substantial French commode from the 19th century wrapped in finely-grained mahogany trimmed with inlaid brass that frames the drawer-fronts and chamfered corners. The original marble slab blends streaks of peach and white throughout the gray stone for exciting movement, patinated with fine scratches and edge chips. A stack of three drawers whose fronts are matched for expansive continuity of the grain are punctuated by ring pull hardware in brass that coordinates with the expertly inlaid strips of metal creating a border, or paneled effect, around them. One (ornate) key is shared between the working locks, and all drawers have been thoroughly cleaned inside & out to glide easily. Veneer on the side panels displays a lightly rippled effect but remains intact and stable for continued use. English 19th century towering chest-on-chest in the Georgian style, circa 1850, the case is built from mahogany with beautiful coloration in the grain. Dentil molding accentuates the crown over side-by-side top drawers mounted on a stack of six spacious drawers. Of the eight drawers, seven drawers retain functioning locks with two keys included (the upper left drawer does not lock). Heavy brass drop handles facilitate easy opening and closing of the drawers which have been thoroughly cleaned inside. The base unit projects slightly beyond the chest on top, underscoring the feeling of permanence and strength, rising on beautifully carved bracket feet. Dating to the turn of the 19th century (circa 1800), the rectilinear form is composed of five, massive drawers opened by brass ring pull hardware. Refreshingly there is no superfluous ornament that would compete with or distract from the ambitious construction of thick, solid planks exhibiting wild knots and grain patterns evident when the drawers are open. An extraordinary Italian walnut commode from the 19th century, Neoclassical in style, decorated with a graphic marquetry of dark/light woods that creates movement and definition over the exterior. The surface uses two, beautiful planks shaped to chamfered corners and outlined around the edges with a sawtooth pattern of inlay in contrasting light/dark tones. A case of five drawers includes two small drawers in the top row over three wider drawers all inlaid with a geometric design of elongated checkerboard strips of alternating blonde and dark woods. Each drawer opens by ring pull hardware; note the escutcheons are only decorative without an original key present. Chamfered front corners are inlaid with a very narrow triangle rising from the feet to end in a little diamond perhaps suggesting a candle or symbolizing an eternal flame. The side panels have inlaid designs complementary to those on the drawer fronts so from every perspective one can admire the visionary intentions of the maker even two centuries later.
