French 19th Century Mahogany Bibliotheque with Blue Velvet Interior

Dimensions: 100 ½” H x 28 ¼” W x 23 ½” D

A rather unusual case piece from 19th century France, this tall and narrow Louis Philippe bibliothèque was specially designed with 15 identical sections fitted into the upper cabinet. Visible through the original glass-front door, five rows of three sections each would have kept books and papers neatly organized which could easily be true for a number of diverse collections. The base unit protrudes just slightly forward beyond the towering display above, enclosing a small cabinet with a shelf, 19 ¾” deep. One key included for the working upper lock, using the same key as a pull to open the bottom door. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. A capacious, 19th century French Louis Philippe style bibliothèque, handcrafted of pine with a row of four glass-front doors for displaying treasured books, heirlooms, and other collections in a living/dining room, office or library. The clean, linear order and golden color allows this timeless design to fit any number of historic and transitional decorating tastes. Behind the two pairs of locking doors are eight interior shelves (8 ¾” deep) which are adjustable on sawtooth brackets to easily reconfigure as needed. Some panes of glass, if not all, are 20th century replacements. The lower cabinet projects an additional 7 ½” inches from the top shelves customary on a buffet à deux corps, creating a shallow ledge over the four doors enclosing the divided interior which follow the order of the upper body. Each pair of doors work in tandem by a lock & key and both compartments have a stationary shelf, approximately 16” deep. This striking storage piece has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to bring out the rich grain pattern and historic patina, ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images.
