A divine 19th century mahogany secrétaire à abattant from France, circa 1810. This desk has an exceptional black marble top resting above a single drawer disguised into the apron. Just underneath is another more visible top drawer with polished brass lion’s head pulls and striking brass shield escutcheons that feature paired griffons. These stylized escutcheons follow down to be found on the bottom drawers and one key is included for all five functioning locks. Under both top drawers the front of the desk folds forward to reveal a work area inset with vibrant orange leather elegantly detailed with gold tooling. The leather is in great antique condition making this a comfortable place to work. When open, you can see the theatre is equipped with five drawers with round brass sunburst pulls and a large open cubby partitioned with arches and columns with the center housing carved stairs that can be removed to reveal a private storage space. With the desk down the maximum depth is 22 ½”; the writing surface is 34 ¼” W x 30”H. This Empire-style secretary features eye-catching bookmatched mahogany and traditional neoclassical columns down each side with decorative brass capitals and bases. A stunning Louis XVI style mahogany enfilade hand-crafted in France circa 1800’s. Its original shaped marble top is a marvelous wine color with white and charcoal veining throughout. The fantastic colors of the marble paired with the deep rich tones of the mahogany make this case piece extremely attractive. Below the marble top are three easy-to-use, paneled and trimmed drawers that feature centered cast brass rosettes surrounded by circular drop pulls with neoclassical detailing. Three large lower doors open up to ample storage space and each house a removable shelf. The top shelves measure 17-½” deep and the bottom shelves are 17” deep. All three doors have oval brass escutcheon plates and functioning locks. Three keys are present. Rounded and fluted corners are found throughout the whole which is raised on fluted turned legs with intricate neoclassical etchings in their top brass surrounds and brass capped feet. French 19th Century Mahogany Empire Secrétaire à Abattant

A divine 19th century mahogany secrétaire à abattant from France, circa 1810. This desk has an exceptional black marble top resting above a single drawer disguised into the apron. Just underneath is another more visible top drawer with polished brass lion’s head pulls and striking brass shield escutcheons that feature paired griffons. These stylized escutcheons follow down to be found on the bottom drawers and one key is included for all five functioning locks. Under both top drawers the front of the desk folds forward to reveal a work area inset with vibrant orange leather elegantly detailed with gold tooling. The leather is in great antique condition making this a comfortable place to work. When open, you can see the theatre is equipped with five drawers with round brass sunburst pulls and a large open cubby partitioned with arches and columns with the center housing carved stairs that can be removed to reveal a private storage space. With the desk down the maximum depth is 22 ½”; the writing surface is 34 ¼” W x 30”H. This Empire-style secretary features eye-catching bookmatched mahogany and traditional neoclassical columns down each side with decorative brass capitals and bases.
