French 19th Century Painted Louis XVI Style Settee
Dimensions: 38-3/4″H x 63-1/4″W x 28-1/4″D
A stunning sofa, made in the Louis XVI style, from 19th century France. It has a carved hardwood frame that has been painted a beautiful taupe-sage color. The paint has aged brilliantly, with some losses exposing the natural wood beneath. The frame sports classical Louis XVI carvings from the floral crest that graces the top rail to the five short legs that have been turned, tapered and fluted. It has an interesting kidney shape that seems to cradle those who take a seat. The fire brick-red velvet is in good antique condition and fastened to the sofa with brass nail heads. The posterior is upholstered in a complementary plaid fabric. The cushion is filled with down.
