French 19th Century Parcel-Gilt Empire Mirror

$3,995.00

Dimensions: 60 3/8″ H x 38 3/4″ W x 2 1/8″ D

A fabulous rectilinear antique mirror, made in France circa 1840, in the Empire style. The mirror features a relatively unassuming moulded frame. What makes the frame, and therefore the mirror, so special is the wonderful blue paint and gold gilt harlequin and beaded motif that embellishes the frame’s perimeter. The glass is original to the mirror and in wonderful antique condition. Foxing can be found where the mercury backing has become separated from the glass, leaving a non-reflective portion. This phenomenon is celebrated by antique collectors and replicated by makers in their newly-produced, antique-styled reproductions. It is an indicator of the mirror’s age and imparts an individuality that makes it one of a kind. Trimming the glass is a very tightly done border in a lamb’s tongue motif. Hung vertically or horizontally, this antique mirror is wonderfully sized to be used in a multitude of applications.

Dimensions 2.13 × 38.75 × 60.38 in
