French 19th Century Upholstered Ebony Prie Dieu
Dimensions: 39-1/4″H x 18″W x 22-1/4″D
A delightful 19th century prie dieu, upholstered in a cadet blue-green velvet fabric. The frame is made of hardwood that has been ebonized. This exceptional finish has become patinated over the decades, exposing some of the hardwood beneath. Below the upholstered armrest is a brass plaque that reads “Mme. Barbier Terlinck”, no doubt the nameplate bearing the name of the madame for which the kneeler was made. A beautiful carved cross can also be found below the armrest, that has carved rays emanating from behind. The front legs are turned in a classic form, with a slight taper. The vintage upholstery is affixed to the frame using gold trim and spaced bronze nail heads. An interesting and decorative furniture piece that also functions as a place for prayer and/or quiet thought and reflection.
