Both a warehouse and a writing table, this incredible 19th century French walnut case piece was made to serve two functions. The topmost drawer unlocks to reveal a drop front pull-out writing surface that is clad in wonderfully patinated cognac-colored leather. Transforming the antique from a commode to a desk, four smaller drawers and a cubby complete the workspace when this topmost drawer is laid down. The writing surface has a height of 28”. All drawers, both large and small, are trimmed with lustrous brass that, like the walnut itself, has patinated marvelously. The smaller interior drawers have small round brass pulls, while the larger drawers are equipped with brass drop bail handles, two each. All drawers have beautiful walnut panel fronts, with the bottom two acting as storage repositories. They all have working locks with diamond-shaped brass escutcheons that ornament their keyholes. The three uniformly-sized drawers are flanked by the commode’s fluted, turreted corners. The feet are turned walnut that have brass ornamentation as well as brass sabots. A great multifunctional furniture piece for a bedroom; this antique provides both a place to keep clothes or belongings as well as a spot for writing, browsing the web or peaceful reflection.

This one of a kind armoire was custom made to showcase the fabulous pair of 19th century painted boiserie panels that now serve as the doors. Boiserie panels rose in popularity during the 18th century as a way to emulate the grandeur of the French nobility, but they also served many practical purposes like heat insulation and noise control. A marvelous, dawn- hued scene overlooking a vast countryside depicts a variety of avian species in the foreground. Antiqued brass hardware perfectly compliments the colorscape of the paintings. The left door features an interior hook to hold it closed while the right is secured with a strong magnetic door catch. The interior is painted a warm walnut color and easily houses 5 adjustable shelves with a depth of 14”. The exterior was painted to match the existing color of the door panels. The whole is slightly raised on bracket feet and adds a nice shape to the overall body. The drawers are seamless and flush without hardware and a functioning lock each. Within the rightmost drawer, four pre-sectioned spaces allow for nice organization.
