Sometimes called a ‘scuttle’- it was originally intended to easily transport and pour coal into a fireplace or furnace then would be left near the source of heat to easily clean up the ashes. The exterior was a great luster and even better patina, a few little nicks and dings give it an authentic look. The forged iron handle has a slight twist to it. The bottom of the pot doesn’t sit perfectly flat as it was meant to be suspended over an open flame. Hand made in England during the 1870’s with craftsmanship not easily found today.
