A fabulous brass & glass cocktail table set from France, mid-20th century, in the iconic style of Maison Jansen bringing Neoclassical refinement and Hollywood Regency glamor to the modern home. This three-piece set incorporates a rectangular table at center and two demilune tables on the end to form a large oblong or may be used separately depending on the room or the occasion. The smoke glass surfaces are punctuated by brass rosettes marking the tops of the fluted legs. As an ensemble, the stretcher rods on each table form a figure eight marked by a single rosette at the middle, proving that every aspect of the design was considered to appear graceful and elegant from every angle. A French, 19th century Louis XVI-style oval form coffee table with the design features of bouillotte tables–the type made for playing the popular card game–given a very chic update in an ebonized finish that makes the brass accents pop. This example uses a white marble surface, inset and surrounded by a pierced brass gallery. The clean, oval shape is interrupted by slightly lobed protrusions where the four legs are joined to the apron, armored with reeded brass panels. Like the card table, this example features two storage drawers in the long sides of the apron and a hidden leaf in each end that slides out to offer a small, leather-top panel to set a drink or hand of cards.
