English 19th Century Glass Celery Vase
$250.009"H x 5.38"W x 5.38"D
Dimensions: 9” H x 5 ⅜” W x 5 ⅜” D
English circa 1860 handmade and etched glass celery vase. Before widespread refrigeration, celery was an expensive and exotic crop, necessitating a specialized type of vase to display the stalks as indicators of wealth. The tulip-shaped bowl of the vessel has straight, tall walls flaring out slightly at the rim. This example has been decorated with an etched illustration around the exterior (perhaps a stylized interpretation of celery or other foliate theme) giving it personality and flair even without a bouquet inside. A solid pedestal base elevates the vessel from a shelf or tablescape; note that due to the handcrafted nature it does have a slight lean. Please view the detailed images to see more of this unique work.
