Dimensions: 70 ½” H x 47 ¾” W x 3” D
A French, 19th century Louis Philippe mirror in a thick, antiqued silver frame texturized by dark burnishing and craquelure. Etched into the molding is a rather naïve fluted pattern interrupted by areas of wear that gives depth and authentic patina to the design. Look closely to see the creative efforts made over time to experiment with the metallic luster: painted edges along the outside in a golden yellow, faux burnished wisps of black on the rope twist carvings, and what appears to be flickers of gold underneath. The original mirror plate sparkles with a fine layer of crystals and foxing. This gorgeous mirror will be right at home in many decorating tastes and rooms, over a mantel, commode, or on the wall. Please view the detailed images as they are essential to understanding the current condition of the antique.

Forming a pediment atop the tall frame is the ornamental crest which uses the familiar imagery of rococo tastes (scrolling details, flora, rocaille) to project abundance and luxury met with the restrained sophistication of the Louis Philippe taste. The original mirror plate is barely touched by oxidized foxing, traced by a narrow beaded trim. Adding dimension to the original mirror glass are intermittent parallel lines of dark foxing and a random cloud toward the upper right which confirms the age. Just over six feet tall, the mirror would be perfect as a full length/floor mirror to expand the room, likewise make quite a statement over a fireplace mantel or buffet in a home with tall ceilings. French 19th Century Petite Neoclassical Trumeau

Dimensions: 26 ⅜” H x 18 ⅜” W x 2 ¼” D
Fabulous Neoclassical inspired trumeau mirror from 19th century France with stylized motifs in parcel gilt. In the center of the frieze are two gilded, cherub-like figures wearing only swags of carefully draped fabric flanking a pedestal that lifts what appears to be an accumulation of flowers. Note that the character to the right side has lost its face and the void is filled with paint in an attempt to obscure that fact. The pair are flanked by lyres and vertically oriented laurel branches emanating from the top of the fluted columns to the left and right of the original mirror glass like a tabernacle-style mirror. The wood backing has been painted a dusky shade of blue–almost Prussian–that makes a nice complement to the gilt and the dark haze of foxing across the reflection. A line of foliate decoration extends across the bottom edge of the frame in between the two protective feet. Please view the detailed images to see more of this exciting trumeau mirror.

Resembling an Italianate style popular in the 18th century, each corner projects slightly outward from the rectangular shape, making room for delicate scrolling designs and leafy patterns to appear in subtle contrast to the matte gilt with craquelure patina. Surrounding the oval mirror plate is a thick border that is an amalgamation of several molding techniques: a cable twist, laurel leaves, foliate/acanthus, and beaded texture on the interior. Shown in vertical orientation, the frame could be mounted in either direction. One small, dark spot of foxing in the glass but no other evidence to confirm that it’s original to the piece.
