An extraordinary English jewelry box from the 19th century made of rosewood and meticulously inlaid with a number of other exotic materials for graphic contrast of motifs. On top of the lid, a stylized cartouche features a metal tag in the center, set in a diamond-shaped panel of bird’s eye maple and rosewood at the corners. Around the perimeter of the box is a thin line of geometric inlay using tiny pieces of ebonized wood, mother-of-pearl, bone, and silver which adds further intrigue. The interior is thoughtfully organized as a removable tray divided into sections and wrapped in cerulean blue velvet for various jewelry pieces. A small oval mirror in the lid is surrounded by ruched satin of the same color. Lifting out the tray accesses the open storage below. The style is known as “Linotte”, that is a small type of finch, and while the plates may not feature avian imagery within the blossoming vine pattern tracing the rim, their woodland realm can still be near. Condition as expected from time and use with darkened areas of chips on the rims, crazing and faded transfers. Stamped on the reverse with the marks of the foundry and the initials C & M. English 19th Century Burl Marquetry and Inlay Writing Box

A luxurious English writing box of circa 1879, in the manner of Tunbridge Ware using burled walnut that has been inlaid with mother-of-pearl and geometric marquetry. The top of the lid is inlaid with a small hexagonal mother-of-pearl tile engraved with the initials “MAJ” and dated to “Jan. 26th, 1879”. Two parallel bands of geometric marquetry in contrasting, twisted effect wrap the lid and front, interrupting the expressively figured burl grain. The box unfolds to a sloped writing surface of green leather outlined in gold tooling which covers two storage compartments underneath. There is one secret compartment underneath the pen tray at the top, flanked by two smaller receptacles for other writing accessories and personal effects. The working lock is announced by a mother-of-pearl escutcheon in the same hexagonal shape as above, one key included. Italian 18th Century Carved Painted and Parcel Gilt Crown

Italian 18th century (circa 1750) carved wood architectural pediment to complete a doorway or headboard, hand-painted in a striking combination red and blue with parcel gilt accents to highlight the scrolled elements. The main body of the work features a bold red ground that is streaked with veining like an exotic marble, punctuated at the bottom corners with two raised panels in another faux marble technique using streaks of blue. High-relief carvings along the top crest project with exuberant acanthus, scrolled, and swag motifs covered in a magnificent gold leaf to balance the horizontal orientation. The left-side scroll is missing and the wood variably patinated but the overdoor accessory remains an exciting addition to any interior for any number of decorative placements. A fantastic and extensive set of Portuguese-made green cabbageware plates in three sizes for casual meals or cultivated dinner parties. The smallest plate size is ideal for bread or dessert, they feature pronounced ribs like a realistic leaf of cabbage or lettuce, appearing more vintage in age without the signature of a foundry apart from the numbers “2621” stamped in the base. One of the small plates exhibits a repaired break across the middle, see the image gallery for more information. The remaining salad and dinner plates do bear the stamp of the iconic foundry Bordallo Pinheiro and are more recent in age, exhibiting the symmetrical vein design that radiates across the plate. An extraordinary English Regency tea caddy from the 19th century made of rosewood, exhibiting the gorgeous color and grain the wood is prized for. This angular shaped box has a sloped lid matched on each side to continue the delicate grain patterns, with a flat upper panel outlined in fluted carvings. The inside of the domed lid is wrapped in an embossed paper like red damask alluding to the silk which would have been found along the tea and spice routes. Inside are two lidded boxes once used for storing loose leaf teas which have retained much of the original tin lining. In the center is a pressed glass blending bowl faceted like cut crystal–truly elevating the tea drinking experience. The escutcheon is intact on the front, however no key is present. English 19th Century Pair of Staffordshire Dogs with Glass Eyes

This lovely pair of Staffordshire dogs are named so for the area in England where they originate, having been in production for nearly three centuries to the delight of hearts and homes over many generations. Two, seated King Charles Spaniels with painted and gilded detail throughout over glossy white ceramic: the suggestion of a chain leash, and worn gold collar with a lock. Expressive glass eyes and bright red lips are the finishing touches on these low-maintenance companions. Patina as expected from age and handling with much of the gilt lost; crazing of the ceramic adds another layer of texture and intrigue. Sold as a pair. French Vintage Set of Fifteen Porcelain Limoges Pharmacy Jars

A set of vintage French Limoges porcelain apothecary jars, each of the fifteen gorgeous jars (all uniform in size) labeled with a different Neoclassical illustration around the text identifying the contents. Gilt accents illuminate the jars as pieces to display almost anywhere, beyond their function as storage vessels for various ointments, treatments, and balms. Stamped underneath the base with “Au Pot de Galien” and Limoges. Sold as a set of fifteen only. One lid, currently on the “Gomme de Barbarie” jar, has been repaired.
