A breathtaking late 19th century Louis XV-style corner bookcase from France once part of a grand library, all hand-crafted in oak offering both open shelving and closed storage. The mammoth installation is actually composed of several sections that will require reassembly. Originally made as a built in unit, you can see notches on each end where the baseboards were cut into the side. More recent back boards enclose the shelves giving them a more finished and custom appearance transforming any library, office, or living room. The long axis (when facing) is divided into five columns of niches at varying widths on the top section, fitted with adjustable shelves on sawtooth brackets. Each shelf is approximately 8 ¼” in depth. Below, a line of sliding cabinet doors glide on recessed tracks, opening to three distinct compartments with a shelf inside measuring approximately 12” deep. A Louis XV influence is evident in the shape of the raised panels on the door fronts that creates a pleasing repetition of sinuous lines. Note the door closest to the corner is only decorative. A magnificent 19th century French enfilade of classic Empire styling, made of richly figured mahogany adorned with gilt bronze accents. Its original marble top of black stone is speckled with tiny, fossilized inclusions underneath the expected scratches from time and use. In the overhanging frieze below, a row of three drawers open by hidden cupped handles along the bottom edge (the keyholes are only decorative without a key present). English circa 1820 Wellington-style chest of drawers made of mahogany in dazzling flamed grain that stretches across the case. The tall and narrow chest is secured to the sides by corbel-topped carved pilasters which are actually flaps on hinges to secure the drawers and provide a vertical counterpoint to the movement in the grain. No key is present. What appears to be nine drawer fronts are actually seven, like a semainier, reserving the middle for a compact secretary drawer disguised as two drawers which slide out and unfold as the tooled, green leather writing surface. To the back of the case are open pigeon holes and five small drawers veneered in luminous maple. An original glass inkwell is hidden in the lower right drawer. The case of three drawers features weathered layers of rust-red paint in that delightfully tactile, scraped finish so iconic of the Gustavian style. An extraordinary Dutch wardrobe made in the late Renaissance period, 18th century. This substantial antique work of storage furniture is all hand-crafted of solid oak, some panels with “tigering” that creates a rippled appearance in the wood to fascinate in any room for storage of linens, clothing, or household essentials. Two thick, paneled doors work in tandem by functioning lock and key to enclose the divided interior: the right door is fitted with the lock while the left door is secured by a forged iron slide bolt in the top. The doors open to reveal two fixed shelves per side, ranging from 13 ½” – 19 ¼” deep over a pair of shallow drawers in the base opening by turned wood knobs. It appears that a small hanging rod was once added to the right-side cabinet which has since been removed leaving the brackets in place to retrofit to one’s own unique needs and taste. English early 20th century shop display case in a gorgeous marquetry-trimmed mahogany frame with three glass shelves mounted on steel brackets against a fabric lining. The narrow crown is emphasized by a line of marquetry in alternating dark and light woods in a cable twist effect for implied movement as it wraps around the angular (chamfered) corners. Three glass shelves disappear into the fabric lining the case which reads as a beach glass color, slightly faded in abstract patches from blue to celadon which is a lovely complement to the warmth of the mahogany. Decorative pilasters on the front are carved with a slight groove and outlined in painted gilt trim. There is evidence of a track on the top and bottom where there was once a set of sliding doors that have since been removed for easy access and engagement with personal collections of books, porcelain, trophies, and more. French Walnut 19th Century Louis XVI Style Commode

A solid walnut commode from France, 19th century, with all the signature elements of the Louis XVI style exhibiting curious patina to blend with interiors from rustic to more refined. The top surface is composed of multiple, honey-gold planks that have been carved to turreted corners, etched with the erratic lines of some wood-boring insect that has long since moved on. Making up the body of the piece are three spacious drawers that glide easily using brass ring pulls; note that keyhole escutcheons are only decorative without a key present. The drawer fronts exhibit the same tactile patina as the top surface and their interiors are of excellent proportion to offer generous storage for clothes, linens, and other household essentials. Fluting on the turreted corners flows into turned, tapering legs lifting the case from the floor. This massive antique chest of drawers from Catalonia (Spain) exhibits a pure tactile joy in how the aqua blue paint has eroded to a soft, chippy pattern with areas of walnut wood grain showing through. Dating to the turn of the 19th century (circa 1800), the rectilinear form is composed of five, massive drawers opened by brass ring pull hardware. Refreshingly there is no superfluous ornament that would compete with or distract from the ambitious construction of thick, solid planks exhibiting wild knots and grain patterns evident when the drawers are open. French 19th Century Pine Bibliotheque

This French dark pine bookcase from the late 19th century makes a dramatic statement by its scale alone, and the crackled texture of the painted interior gives it visual intrigue to anchor any kitchen, dining room, library, or office. Below an understated cornice, two tall glass-front doors provide visibility to regard the contents on three shelves (approximately 12 ½” deep) which are adjustable. Note doors are fitted so the right side contains the lock while the left door uses a slide-bolt for security. The panes exhibit the unmistakable wavy surface and bubbles of antique glass. In subtle contrast to the chalky interior, the pine construction has taken on a deep and rich brown tone like mahogany to integrate with many other historic design styles. The lower section of the unit offers two drawers over an undivided cabinet for (less visible) storage and organization. The drawers retain their keyhole escutcheons however the locks have been removed. Behind the two locking doors of the lower cabinet is a stationary shelf, 16” deep, spanning the full width of the interior. French Late 19th Century Oak Corner Bookcase

A breathtaking late 19th century Louis XV-style corner bookcase from France once part of a grand library, all hand-crafted in oak offering both open shelving and closed storage. The mammoth installation is actually composed of several sections that will require reassembly. Originally made as a built in unit, you can see notches on each end where the baseboards were cut into the side. More recent back boards enclose the shelves giving them a more finished and custom appearance transforming any library, office, or living room. The long axis (when facing) is divided into five columns of niches at varying widths on the top section, fitted with adjustable shelves on sawtooth brackets. Each shelf is approximately 8 ¼” in depth. Below, a line of sliding cabinet doors glide on recessed tracks, opening to three distinct compartments with a shelf inside measuring approximately 12” deep. A Louis XV influence is evident in the shape of the raised panels on the door fronts that creates a pleasing repetition of sinuous lines. Note the door closest to the corner is only decorative.
