English circa 1820 Wellington-style chest of drawers made of mahogany in dazzling flamed grain that stretches across the case. The tall and narrow chest is secured to the sides by corbel-topped carved pilasters which are actually flaps on hinges to secure the drawers and provide a vertical counterpoint to the movement in the grain. No key is present. What appears to be nine drawer fronts are actually seven, like a semainier, reserving the middle for a compact secretary drawer disguised as two drawers which slide out and unfold as the tooled, green leather writing surface. To the back of the case are open pigeon holes and five small drawers veneered in luminous maple. An original glass inkwell is hidden in the lower right drawer. This spectacular desk has been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain every extraordinary detail. The case of three drawers features weathered layers of rust-red paint in that delightfully tactile, scraped finish so iconic of the Gustavian style. The ruddy complexion is interrupted by small brass ring-pull hardware displaying Neoclassical urns along with oval escutcheons (however no key is present). This substantial antique work of storage furniture is all hand-crafted of solid oak, some panels with “tigering” that creates a rippled appearance in the wood to fascinate in any room for storage of linens, clothing, or household essentials. Two thick, paneled doors work in tandem by functioning lock and key to enclose the divided interior: the right door is fitted with the lock while the left door is secured by a forged iron slide bolt in the top. The doors open to reveal two fixed shelves per side, ranging from 13 ½” – 19 ¼” deep over a pair of shallow drawers in the base opening by turned wood knobs. It appears that a small hanging rod was once added to the right-side cabinet which has since been removed leaving the brackets in place to retrofit to one’s own unique needs and taste. This massive antique chest of drawers from Catalonia (Spain) exhibits a pure tactile joy in how the aqua blue paint has eroded to a soft, chippy pattern with areas of walnut wood grain showing through. Dating to the turn of the 19th century (circa 1800), the rectilinear form is composed of five, massive drawers opened by brass ring pull hardware. Refreshingly there is no superfluous ornament that would compete with or distract from the ambitious construction of thick, solid planks exhibiting wild knots and grain patterns evident when the drawers are open. French 19th Century Pine Bibliotheque

This French dark pine bookcase from the late 19th century makes a dramatic statement by its scale alone, and the crackled texture of the painted interior gives it visual intrigue to anchor any kitchen, dining room, library, or office. Below an understated cornice, two tall glass-front doors provide visibility to regard the contents on three shelves (approximately 12 ½” deep) which are adjustable. Note doors are fitted so the right side contains the lock while the left door uses a slide-bolt for security. The panes exhibit the unmistakable wavy surface and bubbles of antique glass. In subtle contrast to the chalky interior, the pine construction has taken on a deep and rich brown tone like mahogany to integrate with many other historic design styles. The lower section of the unit offers two drawers over an undivided cabinet for (less visible) storage and organization. The drawers retain their keyhole escutcheons however the locks have been removed. Behind the two locking doors of the lower cabinet is a stationary shelf, 16” deep, spanning the full width of the interior. Swedish Gustavian Period Painted Corner Cabinet

This striking corner cabinet from 19th century Sweden is all hand-built and painted with those characteristic details so desirable of Gustavian antiques. The ethereal blue-gray paint is original to the piece and contributes a wonderful patina to harmonize in a number of interior styles. A unique cornice tops the whole, with an angular pediment flanked by scrolled projections on the corners. Fluted details add further depth to the raised panels of the cabinet doors, which are interrupted by a perfect circle in the middle. Inside the (unpainted) pine upper cabinet are three shelves, and the door is secured by a simple wood latch. The small opening at the waist is similarly unpainted, framed by a decorative archway that creates a small niche to store & display. The bottom pine cabinet holds a single shelf, its door secured by a rather primitive latch. Make sure to view the detailed images to get a closer look at this special piece. When measuring your corner, the back sides of the cabinet are 28” along each wall.
French Louis Philippe Solid Oak Enfilade

This large solid oak enfilade is almost six feet long and just over three feet tall. Louis Philippe in style, with rich wood tones and handsome grain patterns, this cabinet will anchor any room. The simple plank oak top has rounded corners over a bank of three drawers. The left and right drawers open with turned brass knobs to a fitted interior with two sections. The center drawer has a shield escutcheon plate and opens with a working lock and key. Below the drawers are three paneled doors. The left door and center door open together with a working lock as a double wide compartment, sharing the same key as the center drawer above. The doors open to a single 14” deep fixed shelf.
