French Late 19th Century Landscape Painting
$395.0014"H x 20"W x 0.75"D
Dimensions: 14” H x 20” W x ¾” D
This French circa 1897 oil on canvas painting illustrates a rustic landscape with a dirt road in the foreground leading the eye into the forested surroundings of a placid lake. The tranquil scene benefits from the artist’s delicate touch of thin brushstrokes in a hazy palette that suggests the time of year to be late summer/early autumn. These organic textures invite the viewer in to get lost among the trees and earth. Signed with the initials MAP to the lower right and a date of 1897. Sold unframed, there is some loss of pigment around the edges. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Please view the detailed image gallery for the current condition and message us with any questions.

English Early 20th Century Bloomsbury Folding Screen
$4,400.0096"H x 95"W x 0.75"D
Dimensions: 96” H x 95” W x ¾” D
English, early 20th century hand-painted folding screen in the style of the Bloomsbury Group, circa 1910-1930. This collective of artists, authors, and other intellectuals were sometimes infamous but very prolific in their output, even opening up a storefront named Omega Workshops where this incredible screen may have been purchased. Its four identical panels–all handpainted–replicate the same stylized images of foliate, figural, and Neoclassical themes that layer into an arresting tableau of diverse references that beg for a narrative to be strung together. The color palette features a teal border with fine, black foliate pattern dotted at the corners with a yellow buttercup; a pale yellow background over which thin foliate vines have been painted; a cartouche at the top filled with a dagger-carrying female figure; additional bust figures at the midsection, and urns with anthemion motif anchoring the lower third. The panels can be positioned to use as a self-supporting room divider or privacy screen, even mounted to the wall as a mural; the reverse side does show evidence of prior water damage and discoloration. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Dimensions: 2 ⅜” H x 10” W x 6” D
French, early 20th century fragment of a sculpture that was likely a scale reproduction of a Greek discus thrower. The Discobolus by the sculptor Myron in circa 450BC has a legacy few other masterpieces have achieved, used several times as an icon of the Olympic games. In the complete sculpture, known only through successive copies over the millenia, it portrays the tense body of a male athlete as prepares to launch the disc, highlighting the muscles and balance of each limb. This cast, reconstituted stone fragment includes a partial forearm and hand that grips the rim of the disc, which renders it the perfect size to become an object of curiosity on a table or in a shelf display. $650.001.25"H x 11.75"W x 11.75"D
Dimensions: 1 ¼” H x 11 ¾” W x 11 ¾” D
The artistry and industry of Portuguese azulejos tiles is a tradition that dates back many centuries; as a practical, architectural surface to cover both interior and exterior walls without missing the opportunity to make a strong visual impact. This collection of four, patinated tiles from the 18th century has been more recently assembled into a panel set in a wooden frame to appreciate the charm of their handpainted design (hence the subtle variation between them) incorporating stylized floral motifs rendered in blue, green, gold, and lavender glazes on white-slip clay. Whether used in place of a trivet on a table, displayed on a surface, or hung on a wall this inspiring memento will delight in any interior. $350.0010.38"H x 16.63"W x 1.50"D
Dimensions: 10 ⅜” H x 16 ⅝” W x 1 ½” D
A small but intriguing Italian baroque (18th century or earlier) carved wood fragment from a cabinet or other piece of furniture, built with dovetail joinery as this piece would indicate by the shaped edge. In a strip across the front, illuminated by the patinated remains of gold leaf are deep-relief carvings of botanical elements and C-scrolls emanating from a central cartouche. Flashes of blue and red pigment (or perhaps the red bole under the gilding) are visible in certain areas to give further dimension and vitality to this sculptural work. The weathered appearance and areas of loss only serve to underscore the unique history that this fragment can bring to a gallery wall collection.
