English 19th Century Victorian Ebonized and Inlay Center Table
$2,800.0027.50"H x 38.88"W x 20.88"D
Dimensions: 27 ½” H x 38 ⅞” W x 20 ⅞” D
English, Victorian period (late 19th century) ebonized console or center table that features a variety of angular and curvilinear forms accented with bronze and amboyna inlay. The table top is a wide octagon with chamfered corners to complement the inlaid medallion of amboyna wood shaped as a stylized anthemion motif. Low-relief carvings around the perimeter echo the same anthemion reference, with evidence of parcel gilt to make them glow against the satin black ebonized finish, further outlined along the edge in gilt bronze egg & dart molding. The tabletop rises on four posts decorated as architectural columns (also filled with gold paint in the fluting) mounted on a flamboyant base with marquetry that repeats the inlaid anthemion as above. Four curved feet ending with square bronze rosettes are fitted with small casters for mobility. A top surface and lower shelf provide generous surface area to set drinks and create interesting displays; the unique scale would be at home in a variety of seating arrangements (and decorating styles).
