French Vintage Framed Charcoal Sketch
$585.0025.25"H x 18.50"W x 1.25"D
Dimensions: 25 ¼” H x 18 ½” W x 1 ¼” D
French vintage 20th century charcoal and chalk sketch/study of a statuesque woman in loose-fitting dress (like a dressing gown); out of context she could easily be mistaken for a figure from Greco-Roman antiquity. Beautiful in its simplicity and monochromatic palette, the work highlights the gathering of fabric in her voluminous gown, the waves of her hair, and the dancer’s grace suggest her outstretched arms. An understated giltwood frame draws the viewer in for a closer look, however there is some loss to the molding at the upper left corner. Protected behind glass with one small crack to the lower right, ready to be hung in your home. No visible signature. Make sure to view the detailed images for a closer look at the current condition.

French vintage pen and ink drawing on paper of a youthful boy with gamine features such as a pronounced upper lip, arched brows, and a dense row of eyelashes. Protected under glass and a simple black picture frame, ready to hang in your interior. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition. French vintage (later 20th century) framed pastel portrait on ribbed kraft paper of two merchants in a farmer’s market with their crates of produce nearby. The artist has used a fluid, Impressionist technique to represent the figures and the setting with a soft palette in a range of blue tones, charcoal, and orange partially obscured by the corrugated paper lending a holographic quality to the scene. Protected by a simple wood frame and glass, ready to hang in your interior. Signature of “Sarazin” visible to the lower left corner. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.

English 1920s Large Charcoal Life Drawing
$1,650.0037.13"H x 50.50"W x 0.75"D
Dimensions: 37 ⅛” H x 50 ½” W x ¾” D
English 1920s framed charcoal figure study of a life drawing class in progress. With remarkable talent the artist has constructed a tense scene dominated by the nude male model at the front of the class (far right of the image) surrounded by students at their easels. The Art Deco time period is evident in the geometric repetition of the students, the pendant lights above, and statuesque pose of the model balanced by a tall staff to maintain his posture. By drawing some of the figures as looking out toward the viewer, and the model turned to face them, the perceived wall containing the action dissolves to raise the question of who is studying whom. Signed and dated to the lower right (unclear); framed and matted without glass. Please view the detailed images to see more.
English 1920s Large Charcoal Life Drawing
$1,650.0037.13"H x 50.50"W x 0.75"D
Dimensions: 37 ⅛” H x 50 ½” W x ¾” D
This framed charcoal study from 1920s England draws the viewer into an academic landscape where students at their easels concentrate on figure studies, using busts and torso models as reference. The image is dense with figural subjects: the artists as fully-formed people to representations of the human form as sculptural works and the drawings in progress seen clipped to the easels. A hazy sepia tone infuses a warm glow to the otherwise shadowy and monochromatic composition, enhanced by a tactile quality to the paper. No visible signature; framed and matted without glass. This is a modern English painting, ink on paper from the 1930’s. The wallpaper sample has a new mat surrounded by a silver gilt frame, protective glass and hanger. This mix of modern and antiquity compliment each other well. View the detailed images for the current condition.
Framed Pen & Pencil Drawing by M.T. Brown
$550.0017.75"H x 14.50"W x 0.50"D
Dimensions: 17 ¾” H x 14 ½” W x ½” D
An ink and pencil landscape drawing from England signed by M.T. Brown. Recently matted and framed, this drawing has the viewer standing close to see all the well rendered details, fine lines and shading. The imagery is an interesting scene depicting cliffside mountain steps going up to a winding road shaded by cloud shaped trees leading to a mid-century hotel with a racy little car in front. This delightful drawing pairs a tight architectural scene with soft shading and lush trees to create a feast for the eyes. Graphite has gently smudged the edges of the white matte.
