French Vintage “The Birth of Venus” Painting
Dimensions: 16 3/4″H x 12 1/2″W x 1/2″D
A beautiful interpretation of William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s “The Birth of Venus”, done in oils on a canvas board. The work depicts Venus’s arrival from the sea to Paphos in a scallop shell that is being pulled by dolphins. Centaurs and nymphs welcome her, while some blow conch shells to signal her arrival. Several putti circle the scene, looking from above. To the Greeks, Venus was the embodiment of the female form. Here, she stands in contrapposto form, accentuating the female form and all of its beauty. The work is set in a subdued ebony frame.
