Wonderful turn of the century (circa 1900) pair of Swedish painted console tables in that weathered craquelure texture so desirable of Gustavian antiques to coordinate with many decorating styles. This symmetrical pair has light gray painted half-circle tops over greige (antique white) bases that are chamfered on the corners of each leg to add a little geometric variety. A French vintage painted walnut console table in two tiers, with more recent decorative finish adding handpainted floral and concentric (tonal) borders to simulate a paneled design on the surfaces. The solid and forgiving top surface is lightly patinated, slightly overhanging the apron which contains two functioning drawers and one false drawer front in the center. A color palette of beige, sand, and French Gray feels relaxed yet refined for a multitude of rooms or interior styles. A French Restauration style walnut console, circa 1840. The compact occasional table is animated by ripples of dark grain in the wood veneer, arranged to highlight the exciting movement and naturally occurring psychedelic patterns. A shallow apron houses a small drawer with working lock & key, providing inconspicuous but convenient storage for an entry console or drop area. The top section rises from two carved, scrolled legs at the front accented by white horn or bone applied to the eye of each coil. Flat planks at the back (to sit flush against the wall) enclose the mirror glass which is a modern replacement of a petticoat mirror. A low plinth base cut with a serpentine silhouette juts out slightly around each column, bracing the console structurally and creates another surface for display or storage. A magnificent pair of 18th century Portuguese carved pine wall consoles, also called brackets, originally part of the architectural program of a cathedral altar. They have been updated more recently with travertine stone tops for a durable surface that complements the timeless quality of the baroque profile. Deep cornices project with chamfered corners (of which the stone tops are shaped to fit) with a beautiful slope that contours then retreats toward the wall. A finely carved finial inverted from the base reveals foliate carvings to echo the acanthus at the top corners, unifying the look and enhancing its architectural function. A unique pair of iron and marble demilune console tables, made more recently but with timeless French styling to suit any interior or patio. The half-round marble tops are new, streaked with pastel veining of green and taupe subtly merging with the white stone and finished with a satin sheen keeping the natural texture evident. The four square rods for legs are accented with little, angular stations about halfway down before ending at exaggerated ball feet. French 19th Century Iron Railing Console

French 19th century cast iron balcony railing, repurposed as a stunning console table. On top is a narrow slab of (new) blue-green stone animated by painterly veining in dense accumulations of fine ripples, surrounding a few patches of white. The repetition of the parallel rods on the table base are interrupted by sculptural, if not symbolic iron bars that have been curled and twisted to resemble shepherds’ hooks. At the center of the frieze–lining up with the pyramidal design on the front–is a face with a corona of radiating waves referencing the Sun King (Louis XIV) but could pass for a Medusa emblem as well. Patina of red oxidation of the iron blends with the traces of vibrant Kelly green paint giving the metal wonderful organic and tactile qualities to harmonize with any indoor-outdoor living environment. French 19th Century Parcel Gilt Wall-Mounting Iron Console

A French 19th century transitional wrought iron console with thick limestone top and parcel gilt decoration around the table frame to make an arresting statement in a foyer or entryway. The piece reflects several historic styles from Louis XV to Empire in coded language that signifies refined taste and luxury. At 2” thick the smooth beige stone is one slab, showing the characteristic striations of minerals and variation of pale earth tones intrinsic to natural limestone, shaped on the front to conform to the iron frame below. A gilded lion face punctuating the center of the apron is flanked by delicate foliate motifs in parcel gilt which scroll across the swells of the serpentine bottom edges. Cabriole front legs (technically the only legs) are marked with oval rosettes at the corners of the apron before transitioning to draped acanthus decoration in gilt where the legs bow outward. French 20th Century Industrial Work Bench

A fantastic industrial workbench from France, early to mid-20th century, assembled from a heavy steel case with a thick wood top surface that would allow this piece to become a unique kitchen island infused with authenticity for the modern interior. Using only three boards (likely beech), the wood reflects decades of merciless patina inflicted upon the resilient planks: holes, chop marks, bits of metal, and layers of paint to name a few, resulting in an engaging, tactile quality. In the case below–equally patinated to reveal layers of blue and cool mint green paint–are three distinct compartments for display and storage: an open shelf to the left which can be accessed on either side, and two cabinets with angled handles that may have originally had locks. Note that the left cabinet is fitted with brackets to support a shelf. Folded steel plates for legs elevate the case to a comfortable height to work and prep, leaving the floor open (perfect for accessing outlets and other utilities) underneath. Italian 18th Century Inlay Console Table

This breathtaking walnut console table from 18th century Italy is decorated with a technique of inlay known since the Middle Ages as “certosina” which uses delicate pieces of bone assembled into exquisite geometric patterns borrowed from the decorative arts traditions in Syria or Morocco and cultures in between. Almost every surface of the table is covered in some way with stars, diamonds, or flowers with the exception of two figural tiles in the top-center sketched with cherubs (“putti” in Italian) playing. A line of carved pendant molding drapes from the rectangular top, each little circular suspension also inlaid with a tiny mosaic star. The visual feast is carried down through the four serpentine legs to underscore the Moorish influence in their expressive Arabesque scrolls with circular medallions embedded into the grain. At the junction of the four legs rising up from the center is a turned wood finial also wrapped in a line of geometric inlay. Regarding the condition, note there are cracks and a couple pendants missing at the corners otherwise the patina would be consistent with age and use.
