Pair of 19th Century French Cellar Candlesticks
Dimensions: 6″H x 4″Diameter
A darling pair of cellar candlesticks from France, circa 1870. As their name implies, these antiques were used to illuminate one’s way in a dark cellar. The circular base keeps the candles upright when placed on a surface, and doubles as a bobeche, keeping wax from dripping when they are being carried. Their simple twisted design is rather ingenious, with a stop inside the coils that allow the candle to be raised or lowered as needed.
