Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI Carved Walnut Bergères
Dimensions: 39-1/4″H x 26-1/2″W x 23-1/2″D
A fabulous pair of hand-carved, Louis XVI-style bergères, made in France during the 19th century. The upholstered pair feature spectacular carved details that grace every inch of the walnut frame. Carved roses, acanthus leaves, floral, foliate, running coin and lamb’s tongue are some of the motifs found in this incredible pair. The bergères have been upholstered in an ochre/gold colored silk velvet that is secured to the frame with brass nail heads. The upholstery was present when the set was purchased in France, where they had recently undergone reupholstering. It is at this time that the bergères had all their joints tightened, ensuring they will be sturdy and solid for decades to come. The turned, carved and fluted legs lift the chairs, giving them each a seat height of 19″.
