French Vintage Set of Four Oak and Rush Seat Triangular Stools
$2,200.0017.75"H x 13.75"W x 13"D
Dimensions: 17 ¾” H x 13 ¾” W x 13” D
French vintage midcentury (circa 1950s) set of four, oak triangular stools with rush seats in the manner of Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Faucheux. Their approachable, intuitive forms and portability are quite versatile to switch between occasional chairs, footstools, or side tables as needed throughout the home. Expertly wrapped rush seats around the convex edges are still tight and in good condition with a few missing cords which does not affect the functionality. The oak dowel ladder-like construction of the legs remains strong, variably patinated over time. Handcrafted in France around the middle of the 20th century, the organic style of the stools has universal appeal across all historic to more contemporary interiors. Sold as a set of four. English 19th Century Pair of Tavern Stools
$1,800.0018"H x 15"W x 10"D
Dimensions: 18” H x 15” W x 10” D
A charming pair of 19th century hand-crafted English stools, likely from a tavern or similar establishment. They are delightfully patinated from time and the occupational hazards of the service industry, reflecting a comfortable atmosphere of rustic hospitality that will transfer to one’s own home today. At a natural chair height they double as occasional seats or side tables whether used together or independently. The thick, rectangular tops are pierced by a wavy tilde opening to carry and move about. Four, turned and splayed legs are decorated with ringed carvings, otherwise their tapering forms are pure and reinforced by proportionate stretchers across the length and width. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain the historic character. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition. Sold as a pair.
Italian 18th Century Baroque Upholstered Low Stool
$1,750.0014"H x 22"W x 21"D
Dimensions: 14” H x 22” W x 21” D
Italian, Baroque/Rococo period (18th century) footstool with the most elegant carvings across the apron and cabriole legs. Presently the boxed seat is upholstered in a serene shade of periwinkle velvet–a more recent upgrade–outlined in a slightly contrasting tufted trim of light green. The floral and foliate motifs interspersed along the wood frame have a lyrical quality as they curve along the apron, a siren’s song drawing one down to appreciate the vision of the artisan, and contemplate the luxurious opulence of the period. The painted finish has delightfully patinated to a craquelure texture in earthy hues of sand which in no way diminishes the confident stance of the short, bowed feet. Passionate craftsmanship is evident in the beautifully carved details, fluid curves and ornate motifs, iconic of the 18th century Italian aesthetic that mixes with a range of interior styles today.
